SRT-4 what do you think?
My dads looking for a 4 cylinder 4 door car to drive as a winter car, he drives his austin mini in the summer, so he needs a daily driver. But he wants something fun and fast. He doesnt want to spend a ton of money but , still wants somthing fast.
I directed him to a SRT-4 neon. They are pretty trick, running 14.0 in stock form i hear. They are seriously underated. I understand it is a neon, but i hear the motor is a great package, and pretty solid.
What do you guys think?

They are nice but personally I wouldn't buy one yet. Just a thing I have of first year cars and not to metion that it's pretty much a fancy neon with a turbo and neons have not being known for reliabilty.
I have nothing against the car though. I just want to give it some time on the market first. I would most definately rock one.

My bro wanted one as soon as I showed him the mini movie they made for it. He's been thinking of getting rid of his Tiburon GT for it. I know he won't though becuase the only thing holding him back is the fact that it's a Neon, but moreso that it's a Chrysler

For the final time, these cars are NOT Neons - they are SX 2.0 and SRT-4 LOL what gives you the idea it's a Neon
Look, if you dad wants a cheap winter car - tell him to get the small Toyota truck or even like a Rav4. What good is a fast winter car?? I'd buy an SRT-4 if I was insane j/k... the SRT4 is a great car for some ppl... I'd buy a used one in a couple of years, but I'd NEVER EVER buy a new domestic car unless it's a new Mach1 or Cobra *drool*

That car seems too sweet for a winter man. It does have potential.
Why not get a 2nd hand car as a beater? Or winter driving vehicle for that matter? But I guess if money ain't issue, if your dad likes it, go ahead

He has nice cars for the summer, he just wants something to drive anytime. But he likes to drive, and the SRT-4 seems like it is a good sleeper. With turbo/intercooler to boot. And i think thats what he likes about it.
You guys should read into the engine design, its very solid. Which is amazing for a SX 2.0 (neon)
But then again there are a million neons on the road, with that being said its still a neon!
Bang for your buck nothing can touch this srt-4.
:P

Yeah, well... in terms of value nothing could touch the K-car, the Yugo and so on and so on... that doesn't mean isht.
I agree that he should get the car, it's a great car and will be fun to own, just don't expect reliability though that's all. I can think of 4 other cars to spend that money on... ie. 2000 Subaru 2.5RS Impreza (pre WRX body style), any newer Subary Legacy GT, new Rav4, new Element... any of those appeal to your dad?

hey Bbarbulo, I fully understand, He doesnt want to spend anything over 30 g's, and hes looking for a compact car. I love honda through and through, he was also looking at the SIR, but he wouldnt want to drive that in the winter. But a neon on the other hand who cares LOL
He might even just lease one, then that way he doesnt have to worry about it much.
I like the "removing" the badges idea!
Thanks
Joe
Rated at 215 hp... but makes 223 at the wheels LOL

With a short deadline on engine development, there was no time to prove the durability of low-cost, marginal-strength parts. Where typical engine development teams would spend time whittling away pennies finding the least expensive design that could meet durability targets, the turbo 2.4 team just threw in stronger parts and more expensive materials, cost be damned.
For 2004, it's getting both. In addition to a factory-installed Quaife differential, the new SRT-4 is getting a ratings boost from 215 hp to 230. As anyone with a right foot already knows, the "215 hp" SRT-4 was already underrated, making 223 hp at the wheels on our Dynojet. So is the new power real, or just a ratings adjustment? That depends on the weather.
