the saying - bless you

am i the only one who finds "bless you" annoying? I have told multiple ladies at work to not say it to me, unless they don't mind me at most giving them a head ***.

1. I don't care about your blessing from your god or whatever
2. I find it annoying to feel obligated from giving you a meaningless thank you
3. I find it annoying to have to give multiple thank you for multiple blessings.

People had given me weird looks when I request they don't say 'bless you', but i dunno. Let's assume I didn't find the whole god thing ridiculously stupid, if I worshipped the all-glorious fallen angel, lucifer/satan, would you want me saying 'bless you', as in 'may the dark lord bless you' instead of 'god bless you' everytime you sneezed?

please stop saying 'bless you' to people.

most religious teachings or suggestions are based on facts...which were only discovered centuries later with the advancement of science. the saying 'Bless You' is said for a reason....cuz all your vitals in your body stop for an instant the moment you sneeze.

having said that..its courteous to say it...nothing wrong with it.

socially you're expected to say 'thank you'

that sucks.. it's just a stupid formality in society that does nothing for anyone/anything.

step on a crack, break your mother's back

it's bad luck for a black cat to cross your path

7 years of bad luck if you break a mirror

if you sneeze your spirit can get loose and evil spirits can ****** it

forget that noise. it's infantile and should be frowned upon

since when do you conform to society's norm? it's not a formality. it's someone thinking they're being polite. if you stop saying "thank you", ppl will get the hint and not say bless you...mostly b/c they'll just think you're a jerk. but whatever, you get what you want and since when do you care about what other ppl think about you?

there is a difference between bitching and expressing disdain.

when i do it, it's disdain, when you do it, it's bitching.

I can't act like the jerk I am at the office, and I care what those who give me a biweekly cheque and decide how to increase them think.

explain to me the similarity between saying a meaningless phrase and expecting an empty thank you and opening a door for someone who is disabled, please. I don't smile when i make eye contact with a stranger unless it's a hot chick. if a guy looked me in the eye and smiled at me, i would assume he was gay.

it was a youtube video of that same guy who made a vid about how everyone hates britney, giving his opinion as to why people shouldn't say bless you...

I never said disabled... i said elderly... assuming that they can still open the door on their own... or perhaps giving up your seat on a bus for someone that's older (not disabled, older) ... i mean they're physically capable of standing

it's just a cultural tradition that spans cultures and religions, while it may have started as a religious statement I hardly think it's one now...

That's akin to saying you're no longer going to celebrate Christmas because Christians celebrate the birth of Christ on that day, so no one should say Merry Christmas to you anymore, etc etc...
