ridiculous people and there stupid advice

k im mad and i need to vent here is my problem!!!!!!!

the honda water pump!!!!!!!! has anyone seen one !!!!!!! its a plate of metal with a shaft. On one end of that shaft is a cog on the other end is a impellar!!!! im sick of people saying to others to change there water pump every time they do a timing belt or telling people that there problems are possibly water pump failure. Are you people kidding me the water pump throughout its life span never loses not even 1% of its efficiency when it loses its efficiency is when it starts leaking out coolant cuz its worn out !!!!!and even then it still works like its supposed to. It doesn't sieze up it doesn't stop spinning. there is no need to change a water pump untill the point where it leaks coolant!!!!!!!!!!! use your common sense folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! have a look at a water pump one day and quit giving silly advice!!!!!!!!!! if it aint broke don't fix it !!!

thanks!!!!

lol
i am so with you on this one!
up until now i thought i was the only one that saw things this way. all my friends always say "when was the last time you changed your water pump man??!!" so i respond..."never"

but just last weekend my waterpump did fail and i saw a big green puddle under my car when i opened the garage in the morning, luckily my mechanic is like a 5 min drive from my house.

but anyway...i can clearly see why you are so frustrated at this!!

its 40extra bucks to change it when the timing belt is apart opposed to an extra 40bucks for the part plus all the labour to tear all that crap down again...if u are on your second timing belt change why the hell not change it while you are in there anyways? preventative maintenance goes a long way to save time and money

and sometimes due to the fact that you changed the belt it can cause the pump to leak as its been under the constant pressure of the old belt then u remove it which lets off the constant pressure on the bearings and can give play in the shaft that you wouldnt have had in the first place so that when u install the new belt a few weeks down the road u notice it leaking and then u think to yourself "why didnt I replace it when I was in there in the first place?"

but hey, like most of the people on this site say...its your car do what you like to it...call it whatever, mod it however just dont complain about it

personally if I was doing my timing belt I'd replace the pump at the same time...whats 40bucks to me? NOTHING

i agree with cynical mindset it is your car do what you like !!!! personally i fix my own car always have and always will unless i lose a hand or something so i don't do too many preventative maintenance things if it aint broke don't fix it it costs me nothing in labour just some of my time which i have lots of!!!!!!!! a water pump is a very simple thing to do!!!!!!!! and if i save 40 bucks here or there im all for it

ok... well lets leave this to honda.. they clearly state..
INSPECT AFTER 100, 000 KM

You are right.. but changing is preventative maintanence.. your call ... Honda does not recommend spending the extra money either .. I cropped this out of my manual:

change your water pump every oil change.

Why would you allow yourself to get mad over someone's opinion on a forum? Don't take it so seriously. Trust me, I've read through a ton of b.s. on here over the past 2 years. Over that time I've come to realize who knows what they're talking about and who doesn't. You probably do by now also.

ok i skipped all of the post just read the first 2 and i can tell you i am a honda tech. and this is what i have to say.
the water pump should be replaced for several reason

1. doing t-belt dont want to pay for labour twice.

2. the bearings are burnt out meaning making alot of noise

3. leaking coolant (either from the bearing or gasket)

4. the after affects of #2 siezed water pump resulting in a broken belt

those are the only reasons you need to change the pump.

END OF STORY.

if the waterpump seizes, and the timing belt jumps... you have bent valves. for $60 I think I'll spring for the new pump, thanks.

besides, once every 160,000 kms (normal duty service schedule for a Honda timing belt), I think it's not too much to ask for.

I find that people that have the water pumps changed with their tbelt are "mostly" those that do not work on their cars. Hence, don't pay for the labour twice. I would definitely get both changed at the same time too if I wasn't doing the work myself.

There is NOTHING wrong with paying someone to do the work on your cars.

I just bought a timing belt AND water pump for my GF's car..

the pump has never been changed.. Car's at 207K.. I think it's probably worth it to replace it, so i don't have to rip everything open next time again, just for the pump.. Considering she's gotten over 200K from the original pump, it's worth the investment..

What the hell's the big deal on that adivce??

Everyone is free to decide for themselves...some just think it is worth the while when the tech is in there anyway.
