Residence for 1st year...DILLEMMA

I thought getting into my University of choice would be the hardest part- it wasn't.

I am in a COMPLETE dillemma as to what to do.

Option 1:

-Take the GO bus each day. Leaves from SQ1 (10 min. bus ride from my house), and goes directly on MAC campus. About 1hr. ride each way.
I would be able to get a CRX or 88-91 Si project car in the meantime, and work on it slowly.

Option 2:

- No car.
Residence. Additional $6500 +beer ($6000 ) expense.
Don't know how ill manage a decent paying job, to get some cash...apparently its an amazing experience. 1st year res. is pretty much guaranteed. later on its a pain in the ***.
I can drive for 2,3,4 year...1st is aparently amazing to be on res.

Everyday, my view changes. Last night I was pumped about taking the stupid bus - just to I can have a car to work on.

Today, after having an hour long talk with my best friends sister (going into 4th year at mac), im set for res...

****!!! It will be a tough choice.

I had the same decision you did, I choose to drive to and from school. If I could do it again, I would definitly go res. You'll meet alot more people, easy access to on campus parties and never having to worry about driving. My advice would be to stay res first year, 2nd year stay home cause it's mucho cheaper than rent in most places.

You could always get a car later on, that can wait...

BUT

The experiences you are exposed to living in residence in university is a MUST....don't be like me and miss out on that living at home..it's NO FUN...trust me.

So my choice for you is to try and live away from home and in res...do it man...it'll be worth the while..i'm sure a lot of other people can vouch for this too...

Good luck with all the uni stuff dude..

Thanks guys.
Basically, from what I hear from people: If that person stayed on res. first year, they all highly recommend staying there. If someone didn't, its a mix-up between them saying not to stay on res, and those (like you two) who regret not doing so.

I don't know...honestly like I said, my views change daily. I am completely undecided on the topic.

Some more insight is welcome.

live on residence.

i am talking from experience... you will have such a great time and you will get to meet so many new people.

you will miss out on so much if you commute.

i lived at UofT res for 4 years in Undergrad, and I loved every minute of it. i wouldn't trade it for the world!

you can have a car anytime in your life, but university (usually) only comes around once.

and who needs a car when you are living the good life in res? You will be studying, partying it up etc, and you wont even think twice about a car...

Staying off campus is just like going to a High School.

University ain't the same without that campus experience, you gotta try it out. It will be the best years of your life, yet.

I wish I would have stayed in res for at least one year....I stayed at home all 4 years.

I missed out on a lot, but saved a lot of coin.

hahaha not as much as london?
and last time i checked there was much more to look forward to about living in residence then just getting laid

i lived in rez for my first two years at western (saugeen for those of you that are familiar with it)
and i had a blast
i recommend to everyone to live in rez for atleat one year, it's well worth the money for the people you meet and like said b4, if you commute it kinda just makes it seem like high shcool
living on campus is a completely different experience
i love it so much that i was supposed to go back for a third year, but decided to take a year off school instead.
university is about so much more than just the schooling it's also about life experiences, and you'll experience much more living away from your parents.

*plus the parties are awsome*

I had my own place from day one... didn't live in res. I still got laid and partied like a *****. I don't know what you're talking about Granted, being in res would be quite convenient, but when your roomie is frontin on your **** you just wanna knock him in the teeth. Plus you tryin to get busy with some fresh meat and your roomie is like 4 feet away from you whackin it Not very romantic...

The greatest Res ever is Saugeen-Maitland at UWO...first time I visited there were half naked girls everywhere. Gotta love Western. They were mentioned on the Late Show with David Letterman. You know you're bad *** when you get mentioned on national TV.

hahaha yah saugeen was awsome, i loved it and still miss living there sometimes

it was on letterman in the top 10 list, second most likely place to get laid in north america

but what else do you expect when you put 1252 people between the ages of 17-23 in one building
