Lightbulb Opinion: Mitsubishi Lancer OZ 2003 or Honda Civic LX 2003

Uncle is planning to purchase a new car, he doesn't really have much money to spend, single father with two kids, around early 40s. Which car would you recommend and why... I would definately go for the Lancer OZ but thats just my opinion, whats your?

Some questions
Which parts are cheap for which cars?
Lancer O•Z® Automatic Transmission

Damn that is one nice looking car!

The wheels look like the OZ Monza

Civic LX Automatic Transmission

Same old car you see on the road... not that I wouldn't take it.

Anyways whos with me? Lancer OZ Automatic (I would definately go for standard but my uncle driven a manual transmission for 15 years straight, he's sick of it).

Thanks for your thoughts.

it's true, when i was getting my oil change and honda on tues, i was reading the new consumer report for cars issue or whatever they call it, and i saw some disconcerting things about mitsubishi, reliability, crash ratings, and for economies sake the value, i'd say civic all the way, if he doesn't have money like you said then you want to make sure you put the money in the right place... IMO

I also assume that the Civic will hold its value, more reliable, is it true the engine is built in the US, arent DSM Engines American Quality?

But the OZ definately looks better than the LX/SI

I hate how small those rims look on the Lancer. It needs DUUUBZ I would get a Honda anyday over the Mitsu. Mitsus are known to have weak engines, and for all those that wanna tell me about Dan Buschur and other DSMs running 11s on stock internals, you have to know that they replace rods and cranks as often as I do my laundry.

Hehehe...you have no idea how big my closet is...100sq ft walk in closet. But I still do my laundry once a week...I don't like having a pile of stanky clothes around.

IMO,
If your uncle is tight on cash, why doesn't he go for a Civic DX-G? It has A/C, Pwr locks, CD but manual windows. If he feels it is worthwile to go for a LX, would he have enough for an Accord DX? The Accord DX isn't much more than a Civic LX, it is cheaper on insurance and it will hold it's value better (it recently changed design). Of course, if he doesn't like the style....

Just my $0.02

Mark

I would buy a Lancer only if it was an Lancer EVO. Nothing less. The regular Lancer is built on the same body as the Dodge Neon.
And those rims are FUGLY!

I'd buy the Civic for reliability, etc...

However, if your uncle wants to be a little more unique....

Lancer... change the wheels first.
