Hello!
Very nice site! I am in the market for a Civic and have to admit that I know little about them.
I want to buy a second hand ~1996 to 99? and perhaps the hatchback version. (do the back seats fold??)

I would like it to have A/C PW, PDL at least!! What Model/Year should I be looking for to have these options??
I would like to personalize the car in the future so it should lend itself to modification (ie: rims, exhaust, etc).

I appreciate any help and thank you in advance!!

I would advise you to go for a 99 , because
1) it looks better than the 96-98
2) yes the seats fold 60/40
3) The SE version of the 99 hatchback included A/C and pdl with keyless but manual windows

I think this would be your best bet in terms of cost

correction.... it doesnt look better than a 96-98

and i dont think hatches come with ALL the things you want.... you may want a Si coupe or sedan if you want power everything

if ur going to mod it anyways i would recommend you get the 96 version of the hatchback civic. it doesnt matter what trim level.

this will be the BIGGEST saver of money and will gain you the most mods. in terms of price you are looking at under 5 grand BIGTIME so if you can find even a 97 or 98 go for it. cuz ur basically getting it for the price of a 96.

now that u got your hatchback this is what you shoudl do to get the most out of it.

get sir COMPLETE doors (this will include power windows, power door locks, tweeters, power mirrors.
thats basically all your power options
and it shoudl cost u at max 400 dollars.

then you shoudl get the 99-00 sir front end which at max will cost u 600 (with fogs) and that will give your car the 2000 model style LOOK and give you fogs lights and lip kit in the front.

so basically you all your main important things done.
i would hold of on the a/c for now because you never know if u want to add more power cuz if u do u can always get the a/c put in later for dirt cheap.

I would pick an 99 or 2000 SiR.

All the options, two door coupe, and a B16a2 with a 5 spd.
Decent priced ones are around $15k

b16a2 for 2500
5 bolt ctr conversion with rims for 1800
sir front end conversion 500
full suspension upgrade and basic bolt on's ie. i/h/e for another 1500

and still be way cheaper then a stock sir and be better then it and fassssssttttttttttttttter

totally agree with that.......i would pick up a 96 as long as the body condition is good....

u can have any option which the SIR have......power window, doorlock, A/C, B16, B18.....whatever u want

it will bring u a lot of fun when u build up ur car from zero......

buy the newest car you can afford... so 99-00 even though they don't look nearly as incredible and breathtaking as the 96-98 haha but you'll have less to worry about in the first few years of ownership. I vote a 99-00 loaded DX or an SE. I'm 90% sure that no hatchbacks have power windows unless they were converted.

I should say that Yes, money is an object!! I should also say that A/C and power door locks is high on the list. THe power windows are nice but I can do without for now.

So the opinion so far are seem to be leaning towards the 96 model. What are my chances of finding one with A/C.

Any other opinions??

B16 and B18 are engine codes...

96 Civic will come D16Y7 - 1.6 L SOHC, and the ones your looking at will be non-vtec.

B16 - 1.6 L DOHC vtec
B18 - 1.8 L DOHC either vtec or non-vtec

it depends what your looking for if you like quick or slow comfort ya know its not hard whatever u like we can suggest the best car for your need's 2000 SIR i would choose though i drive a 7th Gen civic but its lackin the power i'd like that an SIR has

if you ARE WILLING to go through the 99-00 front end conversion then o with the 96 but if you're not all that familiar with this stuff and u just want something that looks nice right when you buy it go for the 99 SE hatchback

You guys are throwing way too much information at this person. Keep it simple. All this person wants is some power options and A/C.

Don't worry about modifications at this stage, you don't even have the car in possession, yet. I know you have plans for it in the future but let's take it slow.

Pick a car that has a clean record, no accident (or if been hit, at least things are fixed right), well maintained engine. That would be a good start. When it comes to Civic, appearance doesn't mean much as it can be swapped out very easily. Get a rust free shell and that will be a good bonus already.

As for the power options, spend the extra money later and add them on, again, not something that is extremely hard. Same goes for A/C (IF you want a hatchback that is). If you don't mind the trim level (2dr, 3 dr or 4 dr) then just get a Si and you are good to go.

I have a similer dilema, either i look for a 2000 SIR, or a 2000 Intgera, (not type R, or Gsr)
Any ideas?
Looking for a bite of speed, comfort, and something that wont cost alot to mod.
