Need a starter bike :D

Im finally taking a motorcycle training course and getting my license this summer. Now the next thing is searching for a great starter bike and im looking for a sportbike with around a 500cc motor. I've been looking at some of the hondas but there quite expensive. If anyone can point me in the right direction as to what is a cheap and reliable bike that would be awesome. Thanks

try a kawasaki EX500 - they have been made for about 13 or 14 years so there is a good supply, they look like a sport bike but are relatively cheap to buy and insure - I believe the same bike is currently being sold as Ninja 500

Suzuki GS500E. Made since '89, so there's lots around, and you can swap some GSX-R parts onto it.

I liek the gs 500 cause it has a naked biek look..the ninja 500 looks retarded..it looks so stupid liek it's tryign to be a "sport bike" wiht a cruiser look aswell....I might add a duel sprot bike can do both will be cheaper and will probobly be faster...get a drz 400 wiht the street kit..or convert a wr 426..but wiht the drz you can go off road and on road be pretty quick..and seeign hwo your new to the sport you can find if you liek trail off road riding or street riding...Suzuki drz 400...or a gs 500 for jsut street...then move to a cbr 600rr or a kawasaki 600rr

oh man... NO KATANA please!!! it's like the Hyundai Pony of bikes. Like a red headed stepchild. I say just grab whatever you can for $1000 or something and beat it up for a season. Then go and buy a decent bike.

GS500 is a great alternative too!

If you think you're gonna drop the bike a dozen times then I suggest not getting a bike at all..

The only way to learn is through ****-ups, it goes for anything in life. Im not saying dropping the bike at high speeds im saying at slow speeds. That where i've seen it enough times, ie. Trying to back up a 900cc bike and lose balance and drop it. So your telling me to buy a 750cc bike as a starter bike and expect me not to drop it

the gs500 and the ninja 500 are really good starter bikes
they are light and easy to toss around and pick up incase you drop them
two people i know have had these bikes about 5 or 6 years ago
i've driven both and picked up the gs after it blew over in my yard they both have enough power to keep you from wanting something bigger for a while or at least until you get fully comfortable on them
and you can do pretty good wheelies on them too
and everyone drops there first bike at least once
when i got my xr 100 when i was 10 or 11 it spent more time on its side then its wheels the first two days i had on it
