Need A Good Lawyer!

Last week at my job, my supervisor insulted my co-worker in front of a new trainee, calling her lazy, fat, and too stupid to do meaninful work. Well, she is a very timid person, and she began to cry, so I stood up for her, and pretty much told my boss that his comments were inappropriate, and if he had criticism, he should communicate it in a professional manner.

It's a very small company (basically, pres, vice pres, hr, and two supervisors). The next day, I complained to the vp and pres that our supervisor was insulting and degrading, and was totally unwarranted, b/c my partner at work is extremely dedicated and hardworking.

The response I got was "so what, maybe she deserved it, what do you expect me to do? If you don't like it, quit, and that goes for her too". This was not the response I was expecting.

TODAY I WAS FIRED BY THE COMPANY, AND THEY EVEN SAID IT WAS BECAUSE I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE ****TY SUPERVISOR. I called the Ontario Human Rights Commission, but they said they can't do anything because I wasn't fired for a discriminatory reason (i.e. being a minorty, disabled, or sexual preference). They said I can get a lawyer, but I don't have thousands in the bank.

HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP!!!

It's a retail security company (I don't wanna put names in the thread)...basically, they provide loss prevention officers to retail stores. We work in pairs.

Ya I heard that...but I'm still having a difficult time finding someone. There are a ton of lawyers who do accident claims, but labor law seems harder to find.

Honestly, I don't really care about the money so much. I can score a job pretty easily somewhere else, but it's the principle. It's not right for a company to treat their employees this way and get away with it. I've never been one to back down from a fight.

So you are willing to spend thousands upon thousands of dollars in legal fee's when you can easily score a job elsewhere without problem? All this for principle?

I don't know what principle that is, but I don't like it...

Not saying what happened should of happened or is justified or anything... just that it is pointless in fighting something like this if it is no dirt off your shoulder...

How long where u employed with them? Depending on this, you may be eligible for termination pay. They cant just terminate you like that without proper notice.

Fight it yourself in small claims... Good (honest) lawyers dont exist.

Let me know if you need more help.

I understand what you're saying, but I'm in a fortunate position where I'm living with my parents, and I don't need this job to survive, but I left alot of good friends back at that job who are facing the same **** my partner did everyday. Additionally, I never said I wanted to spend thousands, I said I didn't have thousands.

there are new laws in Canada that came about a year ago similiar the the American Laws where a Lawyer can represent you based on contingency.
quote:The contingent fee is the most common form of payment arrangement for plaintiffs seeking representation in personal litigation. Instead of billing the plaintiff on an hourly basis, the attorney is entitled to a percentage of the settlement or trial award, usually in the amount of one-third. If the plaintiff does not receive any compensation for damages, the attorney receives nothing. Contingent fees are not allowed in criminal matters and rarely permitted in family law cases.

basically they take your case if you win they and you get paid if not your in the clear with no bill...this is a new thing in Canada
You may have to do your homework to find a lawyer but I agree with you and I believe your rights have been violated. Good Luck

Most or all lawyers will give you a free consulation. Look for one that specializes in Labour law.
