what are you talking about? cars can last as long as they are maintained ... cars don't "die" people just decide to stop maintaining them then claim the car "died" when in fact it was murdered.

it can last well beyond that as well ... cars in places like south africa are known to go 1 million miles thats around 2.2 million kms
(I have a friend from south africa and he says the main issue is the dash cracking from the heat)

gatherer, if you didn't notice, south africa also has no winter.... in Canadian climates a car's life is pretty much 15-17 years until it's perforated beyond being driveable (subframe rusted so badly that is' unsafe to drive). Engines need a major overhaul beyond 350K usually if maintained normally... seals start to wear, gaskets crack... etc. I've seen one Integra with 720K kms and still running.... I owned an Accord with 470K kms and still running...

yeah rust is a cancer we have here.... however I haven't seen my honda's sub frame start to go (it's 10 years old) so all is good ....
if rust is fought and kept in check then everything lasts longer the key is to keep it in check

To be honest, your car will not be died because of high miliage if you keep up with the core services (e.g. oil change)...but other parts will show their ages when you reach 300k...
My personal experience with my 1990 Accord EX-R...310k..
1. Alternator (had mine replaced last year)
2. Coil
3. Headlight relay.
4. Power Brake Booster
+ Rust, Rust, Rust!
BTW, my Civic is 1989 (I bought it brand new 14yrs ago), but since it has no luxury features and Electronics, it is still running like a charm with all original parts. now it has 280k clicks on it!

My father in law had an 89 Accord LX sedan, it had 600 000km. He got rid of it last year as it finally died on him and he didn't want to put any more money into it. But he maintained it and it lasted him a long time. He was also the original owner. That car was nice an clean. 300 000k is nothing!

I have a 97 civic with 386 000!!!
however - I just put in a new engine - so i figure I'll get out another 5 years or so. - yeah I need to do a few more things (rad,C/V boot split, clean up the rust... ) - but hey - compared to other vehicles I've owned - honda's are inexpensive to maintain/repair.

Anyway don't think your engine will blow on 300,000 unless it has some detonator hooked up to it to do so when it hits a certain mileage, take care of it and you'll have it running for a long time

hey - I'm just notoroius for blowing up engines - it's actually my 3rd one in this civic
- Engine # 1 - my own fault - car loaded to top with equipment (probally 1000lbs) - was late for a gig - dropped it to 2nd to pass some slowpoke and.....BOOM!!! - I did make it to the gig (on 2 cylinders) - had to get towed home..
- engine #2 came from a wreck - and - well -- it was a P.O.S. 'cause now it's toast..
- engine #3 - well it just went in and has 140 000...we'll see how long 'till I blow up this one
hey - for the price of an engine it's almost cheaper to swap them than fix them - I can do my own swap, other than a motor - which you can get a D16 for about $500.00(or less) - all it costs is $40. for hoist rental and $100 for seals,plugs,fluids,filters....
----------
I have screwed 2 other engines - I had an 89 jeep and blew the heads off 1 week after i bought it (thank god for used car warrenty they put in a new motor for free ) - two years later i was 4x4 with it and i cracked the block. I sold it 2 days later - it actually still ran good - just lost ALL compression @ 85km/h -
----------
One day I'll learn how to drive without killing the car

lol j/k, it's all good, when I bought my car it blew in 3 k after spending $800 on fixing it along with the tranny. **** happens sometimes, just wondering why didn't you return your second engine to the wreckers if it wasn't good to get a refund and punch them in the face.
