Microsoft Office 2007
#44
Friend of mine was saying that he's having some trouble opening files he's created with Office 2007 on machines that run Office 2003.
I know that old software can't "predict" the future so old software shouldn't be able to open files created with new software but I don't see much of a difference in the two except for cosmetics as someone mentioned.

I would hardly compare using a program for free to stealing.... but regardless of what you wanna call it, no i don't feel bad... sorry if that's what you were going for...
do you realize the amount of mark-up they put on retail prices of software? apparently they believe in stealing from the not-so-rich...
also intellectual property laws in canada are quite lenient

1gig is working just fine so far, so i donno what you're talking about 2 gigs would be nice but 1 is definitely enough to run the OS and multiple programs in the foreground, and the HT technology works better than the dual core as of right now... dual core is definitely the future... but it's not totally refined just yet...
there are TONS of studies on the net that show that there aren't that many HUGE performance differences between Dual Core and HT pentiums... alot of the hype is marketing, they want ppl to buy them cuz they're brand new and the most expensive...

i'm going to agree. laptop is running Home Premium + multiple applications with 1GB; although as computer uses change an upgrade wouldn't hurt in the least.

office 2007 saves it files in docx which is why 2003 office wont understand it....it has mostly the same feature...just kinda rearranged and some made easier available...i really dont use it much..just for testing...i use lotus notes more.....but overall its not bad....

that's definitely part of the plan... but 2GB ram is still pricey, prices will drop drastically in 12 months or so... boxing day FTW~!@ lol

3 bills ish isn't cheap to me... it was 175 to upgrade to 2GB ram... (from 1GB) not worth it IMO for the kind of computing I do @ home... i'll upgrade eventually, but for now i'd rather have the 175 in my pocket...

So i don't buy it.
No one is making you d/l your software, if you want to buy it then feel free.
When it comes to home use i don't plan on ever paying full price for something i'm just going to use to type up the occasional letter, all my productivity usage of office/adobe CS etc takes place @ work, if i owned a company or I'm @ work I will always buy my software, because i'm using it to make money, but @ home when i'm just fooling around no dice...
(also if you look closely at alot of EULAs they're allowed to be installed on two computers @ once as long as you 'promise not to use them at the same time' )

If you just want to type up the occasionally letter you don't need the latest office, Wordpad will do just fine or Open office, or buy Word.
Although I do agree, a lot of EULAs do allow you to use a copy at home, which is pretty cool
