laptop info needed
My employer is selling off their older computers for pretty cheap, and donating the money to the United Way, and I was wondering if this is a good deal. I don't know anything about laptops, and I wanted a cheap one just for their convenience. I don't plan on playing games on it, just word processing and internet use.
IBM 390X Laptop
PII, 400mhz, 128 MB RAM
6.4 GB hard drive
Windows 98
CD ROM drive
port replicator
internal modem
all cables included
4 years old max
All for $250. Limit one per employee, and no outside sales so I can't get one for someone else.

Yea that's not a bad deal at all... Notorious is right make sure the battery holds a charge, the pixels are okay and see if they'll give u either a copy of win 98 incase u need to reinstall or get some recovery disks

Very good price indeed.
YEs, as dP pointed out, check the battery, I have ordered more than 3 laptops from ebay and most of them do not hold charge, or holds little charge. Be prepared to pay another $100 for a new battery. Good luck!

check the batery, decharge it completly, and then charge it for at least 16 hours, then turn all power saving feathers off and leave it on and see how long it lasts! you should get couple hours!
another thing, check the screen from diffrent angles and see if you see any faded or darker circles is a patter in your screen, check it at light when its on and a dark room when on! if you see the round spots the screen is gonna go soon!
make sure harddrive doesn't have anybad sectors and all the keys work fine!
I know that you can expect a perfect laptop for that price but these are good to know if you have the choice to chose between a couple of them!
