JDM Connections

JDM Connections:

OK, who here has family/friends in and Asian country that gets JDM cars, who would be willing to help out in a mass buyout of ITR/SiR B18C engines, and ship them all together in a container. I have a brother in Europe, so we could maybe get Euro spec stuff, but it looks hard to come by.

Also post here if you would be interested in purchasing one of these engines to gauge how much interest there may be, to see how much effort I should put into finding sources. Personally I don't mind paying full price, but if there are several of us that want to do this, might as well put our heads together.

Civic Boy, I'm talking about everything pre-arranged...money, shipping, all of it, but they would be the channels of communication since most of us don't speak the local language.

Do you have ANY idea how much it cost's to do this? A Container, Insurance, Tax, Duty, the motors, etc, etc?? It is big bucks! But you make Big bucks in the end!

Yes, I know, my parents paid $7000 for a container to arrive from Europe filled with personal belongings. It was all taken care of by Hapag & Lloyd. There was a lot of furniture and all in there...so I think if we can get enough things paid for and shipped the cost wouldn't be so bad...10 engines will result in $700/engine in shipping, or if we ship one enigne at a time, I think it's more like $1500/engine. But I wanna see what the interest is now, so that I can determine whether it would be worth it for us to do this, or whether it's just easier to pay $4700USD /JDM ITR engine.

Civic Boy, thanks, that would be very good...just lemme know or PM me.

ryuujin went to asia last summer and we thought about doing this same thing... it just wasn't doable... you'd have to get everyone to cough up the money upfront to pay for everything 1st, then all the parts would be bought and shipped over... and i dunno too many peopel who'd trust strangers with large sums of money.. we're talking thousands of dollars for one motor.,, several motors and other goodies and the final bill can be $10,000+.. who's gonna be responsible should anything "bad" happen?or lets say we receive defective/damaged parts? it has the potential for a lot of headache.... so we scrapped the idea.

good luck though

Jugglez, good advice...I *may* be willing to front large sums of money $10K+ and I would trust certain ppl with the money (yes, strangers). Or if someone is going abroad in the spring, I would be willing to give him/her cash money, and expect an engine in a few months thereafter. I just think shipping would be cheaper if we ended up doing a container, as opposed to one engine. Economies of scale my friend... As for anything bad happening, well, the container would be insured by the carrier, as my parents' shipment was, and on top of that, we would prolly get everyone to sign off on responsibility. I imagine it to be this way...the JDM connection spots an engine, it is paid for via wire transfer within 3 days...engine sits...a week later, another swap becomes available, and is paid for in the same manner. All in all, say 3-5 of these take place. On top, there are several orders for Mugen/spoon rims, a C-Westin body kit, some OEM Recaro and some other misc stuff. I would prolly buy a B18C -R and an SR20DET for myself, along with some rims. So about 3 weeks after the last engine is purchased, everything is loaded in a container and shipped. I *may* also at some time be willing to do this with complete cars (later down the road). So it would be good to establish a solid connection, and everyone involved takes a chunk of the profits. Well, maybe it's a dumb idea... consider it dropped...
