ipod touch

It's a pretty solid ipod and internet device...at least till the iPhone can be had legit here...
Make sure you buy a 'new stock' one (one from teh Apple store would qualify) to make sure you get the one with the iPhone apps (people who bought it before a couple weeks ago had to pay $20 for hte apps)

Ya, it was kind of hard for me to justify, but htey were the only apps I used after jailbreaking....this was just less hassle, plus I might use the rental service if it ever comes to Canada, and you'd probably have to run the latest firmware...

yes it does...as long as the iphone is (hack)tivated then you can use all aspects other than the phone. internet, ipod, email, apps etc etc.
on another side note, I just updated my iphone to 1.1.3 jailbroken and unlocked

legally it would be activated on att so it would work...unless you just bought it from att/apple and didnt want to use the phone function...you would have to pay as you go it once to activate it or hacktivate it
u need to bypass the activation screen to get to the homescreen where u access the ipod and other functions not to mention itunes has to think its activated so you can actually upload/sync movie/video etc to it

well it's probably more to discourage not using it on the ATT network (I realize it doesn't do anyhting, but it's a step regardless, probably keeps some computer illiterate people out)...Some announcements came out saying 1/3 of iPhones sold were sold and used hacked...pretty significant...

Really? Cuz the reason I asked is because of this short write up that I had found:
Apple wake up! iPhone is mine!

Many of you know I used the iPhone for five months and switched to the Blackberry Curve. Well last week I thought I would update the firmware to 1.1.3 to find out Apple would like me to reactivate my phone which it never asked me to do prior to the update? I called Apple to find out that under the so called usage rights that the iPhone not activated will not and not supposed to work as an iPod? Wahhhh? Are they serious? No offense but prior to the update I could use the iPhone as a Touch so who are they to tell me I don't have a right to use it as a iPod Touch? They even had the nerve to say to me, "if you want to use it that way buy the iPod Touch!!!!" Or sell it on Ebay?
I asked him why would my Blackberry Curve work as an MP3 player without a SIM? He said he doesn't know but those were my only two options!!
You tell me? Class action? Why is there no uproar about this?

I just wanted to see if someone could actually confirm it.
