haha don't worry I done the same thing once too but it was much worse. I wen't 20 minutes early to school to write a math exam and everytime I open my door it's a habit to lock it so I did that, opened the trunk so I can grab something, forgot that I locked the door, I close my hatch and at the same time the door closes on it's own. So im locked out, 40 minutes away from my house with all my books, pens, pecils, and calculator in the car. So I still couldn't write my exam b/c I needed my calculator the most. We'll long story short I was late for my exam 20 minutes and it kind of pissed me off

I've done it too... Now I have like 5 sets of keys, one in each pocket, one in the car, one at home, and one in my jacket or whatever... I also keep a thingy of lock de-icer in my jacket at all times.

spare key
Here's the solution to your problem;
1. go to Walmart and get a spare key cut - about $2
2. go their accessories section and get a magnetic key case the right size to fit the key - about $3
3. put the key in the box and attach to something metallic under the front or rear bumper.
its saved me a couple of times over the years

i've done it once
check this out, LOL!!
found a parking lot near Eaton Center, i park the car and get out to get my autolock from the trunk, as i walk closer to my door with a grin on my face as these 2 FLY babes passed by, then pulled on the door handle only to find that i locked my sorry *** out, i was like ****! and they laughed their sweet sweeet *** off :cry:
car was running, had my neons on, and dam i was sure as hell pissed.
luckily i lived right at the North York Center, so i tore my shirt, and ran like no man had run before ( LOL j/k took the train ) to my apt. and got the spare keys.......
2 hours later(includes all stress, humiliation, and stepped on toes), 1/4 of gas LESS, ~$8 lighter in the pocket and the loss of a neon tube, I WAS ABLE TO GET MY HOTDOG!
"this all took place a while after i purchased my civic"

Not to worry, we all do boneheaded things. Like me, sometime in December I was smoking in my car when I got home, window wide open (cause I usually don't smoke in there) then I finished my smoke, got out, locked the car and went inside. Well the next morning I came down and my window was still wide open, luckily it didn't snow, but it did take about 20 minutes to defrost the inside of my car.
