Forza 4 - First Impressions
Well the time has come. It's out. Who has had a chance to play it so far and what are your thoughts?
I was only able to play it for less than an hour before I had to head off to work today. With the wheel/pedal/seat setup, I immediately noticed the improved handling/tire physics (those who use the regular game controller probable won't notice it much due to lack of feel/feedback). I find the vehicles reacts much quicker and more realistically than in F3. the other main thing I noticed was the much improved lighting. I will withold further comments until I've had a chance to get into it further. I was able to try out a familiar car, the 89 toyota MR2. It handled pretty much bang on the way it does in real life (in stock trim). Will have to throw some mods at it and see how it compairs to our race MR2.
What do you guys think of F4 so far?

i pre-ordered the LE copy. i love the way the driving feels now and you can tell your sense of speed like GT5, and graphics are little bit more crisp, but at the same time i feel like i didnt get a new game. not much was added to it and most of the new cars i had already from DLC packs from forza 3. less swaps on almost all cars, no new rims at all. I'm glad thy didnt change the tuning tho. still my fav racing game, just some things that diasppointed me.

Well I've had a good chance to run the game through it's paces now. I too pre-ordered the limited collectors edition.
The most significant difference I've noticed is the improved vehicle handling and tire physics. With a wheel/pedal/seat setup, the difference is VERY noticeable. Using a regular game pad controller, most will barely notice the changes. I will actually go so far as to say it's very close to the level of iracing, which I've had a decent amount of seat time with and is considered one of the most realistic racing sims on the market. Having real racing experience, I can say they've done an excellent job with F4. To get the best experience out of F4, you MUST turn off ABS, traction control, stability control, racing line... basically, turn off all the assist. Turning any of them on reduces the feel of realism and, to me, sucks the fun out of the game.
Shortly into the game I won the 89 toyota MR2. We have a real one which I've had the privilege of building and racing in autocross, touge etc. When I setup the MR2 in F4 with all the exact specs as our real one, I was literally grinning ear to ear as I stretched it's legs around the track. I couldn't believe how close it felt to the real car. The way the tires feel at the limit and as they break past the limit and the way the tires sound when that happens is quite authentic.
The cars look and drive more realistic, the tracks look better and more photo-realistic, and the sounds have even improved. (The Ferrari 599XX imo is the best sounding car in the game). The new tracks are also a nice touch. The topgear test track is one of my favorite as trying to beat the stig's lap times with the same cars is a fun challenge.
Overall, content-wise, not a whole lot more than F3. Though what was added is some pretty good stuff (tracks and cars). Graphics are now the best in the genre (imo). Sounds are also the best (imo). Handling and physics are also among the best, right up there with the heavy-simulation hitters like iracing (imo). With more DLC's coming out in the future and new simulation wheel/pedal/shifter setups also coming out soon, F4 is a huge kick in the nuts to gt5...lol.
It doesn't have everything (rally, night driving, rain). But what it does do, it does very well. I think that's what makes it so good. They knew what they wanted to include and concentrated on being the best at that.
