Fido Cellphone Plan

Anyone work for Fido or know of any way to get a good deal on a Fido plan?

I don't mind the pricing, but the 6.95 a month system access fee is just rape.

Anyone work for Fido or can get a deal with them?

Let me know

Asim

I work for a cell phone company... little bit of inside info ... at 7 cents a share and with 3 big companies gearing up to rape Microcell, I'd suggest looking at something else ... my guess is Microcell has a year maybe 2 left before they fold up....

just my 2 cents hope it helps..

I wouldn't mind switching over. But I've been with them for like 3+ years now. I might call them and see if they have some benefits for long time clients.

The problem with switching over is that all my business cards have my current cell phone number on it. Switching over would make me change my cell # and have to replace ALL my business cards and call all my clients. So much trouble...

I'm in the exact same boat...

I heard there is an introduced law that the cell phone companies are fighting.

Something to do with being able to keep your number and change carriers...

Hafta look for some info...

I think the answer is a 1 800/888/866 number...

You pay and it roams for you...

Sadly its a Rogers World in Toronto and the GTA....

I have a primeline number from bell......can direct the number anywhere I am...cell/home/work etc and you can set the times to switch if you wish....costs 19.99 a month but my business pays for it...

there is a law that mandates cell phone companies to allow you to keep your number as you switch between carriers, which is a royal headache to get setup in the networks (cell phone tech here) anyways the 2nd phase of this was scheduled to be rolled out November 2002, and it was. The last phase is being able to move your number between mobile carriers and landline. this service is called local number portability. and for the full number portability it is scheduled to be rolled out nation wide in 2004. this sounds great doesn't it ... you can keep your number and switch carriers...

now the down side:

1) we are in Canada that law as stated above is a usa law

2) Canadian carriers will fight this if it comes to canada for the following reason:

A) because of the cost of setting it up

b) because the Canadian Market is only large enough to support one carrier, currently bell mobility is the only one making a profit. and this law would allow for greater churn (churn is customer moving from one company to the other) currently it's hard for companies to keep this down it'll be harder for them if this law is thought of by the MP's

Also as a side note in Canada Local number portability is now available for local landline service ... in the state it was rolled out years and years ago in Canada it's only been a few years

your welcome and the jacket was free

I'm going to guess and say Canada will do the same thing in a few years because by that time the technology will be tried and tested in the states so it will be less work for us (reduces my overtime damn!!!)

Ok with all this talk about cell phone companies and with the "inside" track on Microcell's demise, what is the "best" company to go for if someone has a GSM phone?? Rogers or Bell?? Keep in mind coverage and cost.

GSM is only supported by Rogers and Microcell

CDMA is only supprted by Bell and Telus

but thats the old 2nd generation stuff 3rd generation phones are out now (Tri-mode phones)

the technologies for the 3rd gen... break down as such:

GSRP .... rogers rooled this out ...not sure about microcell they are still trying to float

1XRTT this was rolled out by Bell (Telus is just rolling it out) this technology allows web browsing (if your in to that) 1.5 times faster then rogers 3rd gen technology... also the data connection is faster then a standard 56K modem (up to 96Kbps in Field tests)

I'd give more info on the rogers 3rd gen technology but I don't know much about it.

I used to have Rogers for for my cell(8 years), and pager (12 years) ......they finnaly pissed me off 2 years ago......so I switched to Bell. I'm happy with them. (rogers wanted to, and was going to, raise my pager to $19 a month when I had to renew........I told them they were fuqken nut's, and cancelled.) I later did the same thing with the cell.

By the way, you can't get around the $6.95 thing, unless you go "pay as you go"....it's included in the price of the card.

Just to let you know, Rogers has a deal for airport employess....(heard it from a friend)......I believe he said $15.95/mnth (could of been $19.95.....but I believe he said $15.95).......100 extra min during the day...........evenings and weekends free.......6pm 8am, mon - thurs....... fri 6pm - mon 8am.

bastards........

They said I couldn't renew on my old plan becaus it was no longer available at all, not even with another company.............LIARS! FUQKEN LIARS!!!!
(I used to pay $19.95/mnth....evenings weekends...blah, blah blah.....)

I HATE ROGERS!

That might also be the reason I don't have internet on cable yet.

I can post ***** just fine on a 56K modem.
