Electronics nuts

Are there any electronics nuts on here? I'm looking for something small that is motorized where I can spin something 360... can anyone recommend any stores or websites to find this sort of stuff? I haven't had much luck finding what I want searching on google.

your best bet is probably a stepper motor found in printers and precise controls, as it will allow full control over 360 degress, where as a regular DC motor will not so it will be luck of the draw whether it makes it 360 degrees or not.

Your going to need a stepper motor driver IC to drive the motor, and some form of control to give it the right amount of pulses to do the full step. You could get away with a 555 astable multivibrator and a 555 one shot to give you a 360 degree step with a press of a button, or go big and get a microcontroller to precisely step it.

Thanks for the info, its a great help.. I've found some stuff too.. what do you think about a brushless motor? And would a microcontroller allow me to stop at different angles?

what is you are trying to do?? Does it have to stop at a certain angle automatically?? If not jus get a slow moving motor and have a push button to control wherever you want it.

a DC brushless motor still wont allow u to stop at precise angles, it will just stop randomw, whereas a stepper motor or DC servo motor can stop anywhere you want to. How much of a load do you want to use cause that will depend aswell

Good luck with it Rob, electronics are fun...when you get it working, and if you blow them up they are cheap to replace, #1 hobby with me

If you need any help let me know.

Oh yeah Rob one other thing. If this is going in a car enviroment look into CMOS chips they can handle higher VCC voltages, whereas TTL chips max out around 5v so youd need a DC to DC converter to step down to a regulated 5v if you used that in your circuit, where cmos can integrate more easily.
