computer help

I have a problem with my internet connection.

First off some more info... I reformatted my hard drive and intalled XP... soo after that I hooked up my sympatico modem thru ethernet connection (hardware connections) and my computer starts to connect through the internet automatically without me setting up neither software or manual internet set up connection (software setup)... need help

I know there are some Comp guru in this joint

thanks in advance

LMAO so I guess he is complaining that everything works fine. Only thing I can get out of this is that he's supposed to connect first and then get onto the internet, but his connection is permanently on and he doesn't want that?? I dunno ... Lets see what he says

well the thing is that internet gets connected right away without me signing up, I have bell sympatico. Usually I sign up first to get verification through sympatico before i get internet connection.

Install the Sympatico software then and see if you can log on and off after its installed... are you using a router? If so then the router is set to keep the connection alive.

yea its your windows Xp
wind xp looks for internet connection automaticaly, and if connection is available it trys to connect, in your case you need to set up a sympatico account to log in, i think you dont have an account setup on your computer for the internet log on, thats why xp just sings you in right away, kinda like auto sign in.

So to take care of that auto sign in you have to make a sympatico sign in account with w/e user name and your password, so xp doesnt logs you in by defaul and make sure auto sign in box is not selected.

if you have all the account set up to connect to the internet, and auto sign in box is unchecked, then go to start, click on administrative tools and select services, and see if your sympatico service is on automatic, if it is then right click and select properties, and there should be a drop down box, select manual and click ok, so from next time on it wont start at all unless you click on your sympatico icon on the desktop or what ever and then it will ask you to enter user name and password.

if you think its to confusing then i would recomend you to call sympatico help desk ppl and i am prety sure they will go through with you step by step.

have fun!

go to start, settings, network connections, and if u have a hub then remove all but 1394 connection and local area network. if u dont have a hub erase all. then go to start, programs, accessories, communications and then new connection wizard. on network type, enter connect to the internet then next. then set up my connection manually then next and choose connect using a broadband connection requiring a username and password, enter your isp name, username, password and click on show shortcut on desktop and ur set to go.

Typical user. Now I'm confused as f*ck.

this is why IT guys try to avoid 'information' from users when trying to fix PCs.

if your HDD is dead, then how are you connecting to your internet? Sorry if I'm ragging on you because your english may not be very good.

Take your time to explain your problem in detail, and I can try and give you some ideas.

Does a modem status page come up?
