check your IDE cable and power cable which connects to your cd rom drive. Make sure that the proper settings such as master or slave is chosen correctly. I was thinking that you may have to install your drivers on your cd rom. But you are using win2000 and this specific operating system should automatically install the drivers for you. Who makes this cd rom drive, try to go to there home page and look up your specific drive and download the drivers. Or your cd rom drive can be corrupted and you may need a new one. You don't need cd's to install the burner or dvd, windows should automatically detect this hardware.
Thats all i can think of right now, hope this helps, if i get more info i can possibly try to help you out a bit more.

Doesn't sound like a drivers problem to me.

I suppose it works before and it just started to act like this!?

I would check the pwr of both drives 1st.

One quick check while you system is on...

Press the eject button on both Burner and DVD Drive.

If both devices have pwr. the drive trays should open regardless.

If both drives aren't reponding..open up your case. Check all the cables connection (i.e. Pwr and IDE/SCSI cable).

Other things I want you to pay attention to is...during the boot up process. Do u see a screen that show all the BIOS info. If so, it should tell you if the BIOS can actually detect both your Burner and DVD Drive.

Please let me know the result and we go from there!

regards,
