Best Of The Season
At this time of year, we all reflect about our lives, and what we have. Not usually about material things; usually about our loved ones, relationships, new friendships gained, and sadly, those friends and loved one's lost through the year.
This year I lost my Mother-In-Law. An awesome lady, still kickin' until the very end of her 86 years. I also lost a friend just last week. He died suddenly of a heart attack. Truly a tragedy. He was only 35 years old, leaving behind his poor wife, now a widow at 26 years old. When I think about the losses, it makes me appreciate the immense value of the friendships and relationships I do have, and makes me cherish them so much more.
I thank all those at TCC for making my life brighter this year, and sharing a small part of your life with us all here.
I wish you much happiness in the celebration of your faith and traditions at this time of year, and a joyous new year for 2007.
Cheers

Losing a loved one can be very devestating. Lost my dad in 2000 (heart failure). First cousin and uncle (from the same family) to cancer within a year apart of each other. Never the same after an event such as this, but we all have to move on. So, my condolences.

Just last week, my uncle had a severe stroke and was not expected to live. His brain was so swollen he could not see, talk, anything. They gave him 24hrs to live. But I knew him pretty well, he was a battler and would not give up life without a fighting back. Today, he is still alive but is struggling coping with the new way of life he is, not being able to walk, seeing as he is paralyzed on the right side of his body. He is struggling but fighting to come back. He is a trooper, and he wants to see his nieces and nephews get married and live a happy life, not matter what state he is in.
My mom also was in the hospital for a week. It was hard for me, and for the family, but she is ok now. Thank god.
About 5 years ago this time of year, we were sitting at my dinner table as a family as my dads left arm dropped and started tingling at the tender age of 43. I was young and scared ****less. He had a shortness of breath and all. We were all worried, but my dad told us all it would be ok, and I trusted him, he is my father. He was rushed to the hospital where he got there just in time to avoid a heart attack and had a quadruple bypass. My heart dropped when I heard he just avoided a heart attack as I cannot see myself living the life I do without him in it, he is my idol.
1 year after my dad had his quad bypass, right around this time of year, he was at work trying to afford to put gifts under the tree's for his children, 3 of them including me. I was in school when I heard my name called over the p.a. to come to the vice principal ASAP. When I arrived, I thought I was getting in trouble for looking up girls skirts, but no, it was a devesting message saying that my uncle is coming to pick me up to bring me to the hospital because my dad was severely injured at work and my uncle was bringing me to the hospital. I was in shock. My dad is a welder at Stelco for those who dont know, and Stelco, ALOT of things can go wrong. He was welding ontop of a birdge that is moveable by crane, and all the right safety precautions were taken, everything signed off, roped off, EVERYTHING. He was to attach chains to the bridge to lift it off, and put it on the ground (big steel bridge that can be taken in and out), so he can weld railings. So as he was attaching the chains, the crane operator thought he would help out by lifting up the one chain because it was a tad low, but my dad did not request that, so as the crane operator thought he was helping out, he panicd and hit it really fast because he seen it got caught on the opposite side. Needless to say, the whole bridge started to turn and only one side going up. My dad freaking out, had to literally jump off the birdge, hitting concrete, rolling over 4-5 times, and the bridge came crashing down (imagine tons and tons and tons of steel) 2 ft beside him. Dad nearly missed death, it wasn't his time. He broke almost all his ribs, broke legs, broke many many things.
I guess what i'm trying to say that this is the time of year to cherish your loved ones and not to materialize this time of year. I am happy when I walk into my basement and see my family eating, drinking, and having a good time. That to me, is christmas.
