wiring up fog lights

hey guys i got my civic with foglights but they were never wired up so i wanted to connect them to my headlights

during the day theyre off but i have to turn them on during the night so i wanted my fogs to turn on when i turn on my night lights

how would i go about doing this is it just a simple matter of wiring it up to the positive and negative of my h3 bulb (if so how can i tell positive and negative?)

i also read somewhere that the fogs take in WAYY too much power so a relay is needed so would i have to attach it to a trigger?

All you have to do is find what wire is you power on the head light wiring harness, and just spice the fog light power wire into that, but make sure you add a relay to the fog light wiring or you will burn out you light switch. You will need a test light you find what wire is power, the ground you can have it going to any metal.

I actually just had my fog lights wired to my headlights, OEM style, but re-wired it so i can turn it on whenever i want. I bought a set of fog lights which came with the instruction manual, I can give it to you if you want. PM me if interested...

okay tried using that but its a bit confusing (sorry)

so is it like this

battery attached to the relay and relay attached to foglights?

i have an HID kit but theres four wires so i dont know which one to use as my power wire so i decided to just constantly leave my lights on (when the cars on) unless someone knows which is the power wire

Just get someone to do it for you, if you can't do it. If I were you I'd try it until it would work. Btw, have you tried google-ing it? I'm sure there must be a diy for your car.

it should fit right in, if you look at the fuse box label, it should say fog lamp or something like that. In the 1996-1998 fuse box (interior) it's brown and in the center left part of the box. Look on the label in your car, it should indicate where it goes.

No worries.
1)On your car the color might be different but you should have one, look in the fuse box on the driver's side underneath the steering wheel or in the engine bay.
2)HID kits should be plug and play, meaning it goes directly with the car's stock light harness. you may not have the wires pre-run, so you'll probably have to run new wires to the fuse box, the battery, the switch, etc.

you didnt get any instructions with your fogs? when i installed mine i did step by step from the instructions in the box and few hours later all working perfectly with switch rely etc to turn them on and off. not to mention HID.

i dont know how same or dif it will be for 99 civic to yours but if you want i can get you a print out of those instructions.

also i found this great DIY for HID fogs when i was doing mine, because you have to do some custom things to make the bulb fit in the fog and run cables through the housing.

if i find it i will post it up here.

Could someone correct me if I'm wrong

I'm going to connect the positive on the head lights on one point of the relay (85 ithink) and instead of the switch I'm going to connect a wire from another point on the relay (86?) to the power wire attached to the headlight
