wife wants an automatic !!!!!

hey guys

So me and my wife decided to buy a new car this year. We have a 2000 Honda civic however its getting close to the 200 000 km mark and my wife is getting her g license.

So i was teaching her how to drive manual , which went well until one day she forgot everything i taught her and stalled my car 5 times in a row , and also confused the third gear with the first one so she went first gear at 55km !!! .

Anyways , we are both paying for the car and we are planning on both driving it ( one week each or something like that). Anyhow , she was fine with buying a manual at first but after talking to my parents they convinced her to get an automatic !!. I tried to convinced her to buy a manual again but she doesn't want to hear me and only wants to get an automatic.

Any advice?? . I can't see myself driving an automatic again , and we are planning on getting a 2006 civic or a celica (depending on the insurance)

i wish i had the money to buy her an older automatic and get the newer car for myself. Unless you want to trade your 99 civic for a 2000 civic with 200 000 km and 1 accident.

I know this is not a huge issue , but man i really want a 2 door manual or the 2006 civic manual .

When I drive my wife's car, the relaxation of an automatic is still nice. A car that is shared by both should accommodate both, not toward one party.

so i guess i gave to give up a manual.
Tiptronic is an option but it is very expensive IMO . I guess i can still buy an older celica for 7 gs next year .

I drove stick from age 16 to 29. Now I got an auto and I don't really want to go back to manual. GTA rush hr and stick = sucks ***.

In the end auto isn't that bad since your car will be a DD.

buy your own car, make sure it's manual, and tell her to get her own.

well i would do it .. however she is saying that we already have a manual (my car before i got married) basicly her point is we already have a manual which is your car , and i should get an automatic to be my car.

However my point is if i m going to pay for half of it i should have a saying in this too right. BTW she wants a red car. Of course according to her the new car is going to be for both of us but i m starting to see it differently.

Plus , i got my parents against me and since i m 23 the insurance would most likely be under their name !

yaaaaaaa, I'm not even going to touch it...

but anyways, try teaching her again?...or maybe have someone else try and teach, some people are just better at teaching it then others...

a car with paddle shifters would kind of be a compromise, but a ****ty one...

well guys thanks for all the input . I got good news and bad news

bad news

It aint happening , we are getting an automatic this summer and its final . I forgot that my wife suffers from both knees when she walks too much or does too much exercise. Therefore having a manual and she having to use the clutch everytime (she gets off work in rush hour) it may not be good for her knee. So i had to give that up (of course there were more reasons but this one just kill all my chances)

good news

i will decide the model , year , and colour of the car (it looks like the budget will be 10 000 to 16 000 ) so i guess we can get something pretty decent for that
Also , my wife agreed that once i turn 25 ( 1 year and a few months) to sell the 4 door honda and get for myself a car for 6-7 grand ( i think i can get a celica for that price)

that's probably a good compromise....

just buy a 1-2 year old Civic or something for her...

and then get a Miata for yourself, you'll be in good shape..
