what's a good year to buy from 93 - 97?

Hi there, i' SWEAR i've searched and i couldn't find a thread on what's a good year to buy? i'm looking at cost of parts, both aftermarket and original, as well as ease of doing an engine swap, and then general quality. What handles best? better interior? quieter perhaps? more space...are there any inherint advantages with going with the newer 96+? Milage? i'd also like ABS...any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!
Matt.

96-00 is the best generation in terms of swap, part availability and ease of doing conversion etc.... no generation civic had more compatible parts then this generation and by the looks of it non will.

and 93-97 has two different generations.

general rule is 88-91, 92-95, 96-00 however for the 92-95 styled coupes where not offered until 93 and hatch's had the vx vtec model for only 92 and sedans had the ex-v for 92 only etc......

If you want ABS, then you'll have to get a 96-00.

I don't believe any civics from 92-95 came with ABS. I think the only car that did was the EX from the USA.

I would suggest getting a 96-00 anyways, mostly because they are easier to find in good shape (ie. less rust than most 92-95s).

Now that the 8th generation Civics are out, the 6th gens should start coming down in price. When I was buying mine, the Manager at No.7 Honda was saying that everyone was holding onto their 6th gens until the 8th gens came out. Same thing happened for 5th gens when the 7th gen came out...Civic owners have now gotten their use of the EKs and will likely purchase a New 8th Gen...Thus, there should be lots of 96-00 Civics available in the future.

Just a theory, though.

Hey guys, thanks for all the great replies. I"m aware that 93-97 are compsed of two different gens. Basically i was wondering which is better. As it seem that the 96+ have ABS and they are newer, i guess i'll aim for one of those. Now, um...is there a better body style - in terms of performance? is one much lighter than the other? i actually like sedans, as they are practical and i find the longer body looks good when lowered, etc, but i'm unsure if there's a great weight penalty?

6th gen coupes weight ranges from 1500-1570 kg
hatches range from 1495-1510 kg
sedans range from 1510-1540 kg
(this is straight from the helms manual)

so contrary to believe a top of the line sedan (ex from the us) weighs less than a si.

i have a 96 ex sedan from the us for sale

99-00 Sir's were the only civics in the EK generation that were availbe with all wheel disc brakes.

As for abs i belive its a factory option, my 98 Si-g has abs

IMHO 99-00 are the best civics to buy

I have put serious consideration into converting my front end

The only 96+ Civics that came with 4 wheel disks were the 99-00 SIR. ABS was an option on the Si and EX Sedans. The G-package included ABS in most cases.

i'm looking for a pretty cheap start up cost, this is really supposed to be a cheap car to save on gas! lol (well, that's what i'm telling myself!), so 96-97 i can do.

how did the front ends change?

and why are 98's so popular?

96-98 has a smaller grille, uglier head lights and no slots on the bumper for fog lights

my front end really adgiditates me, especially with the crappy option jdm type r lip, nothing personal to the company though, it was my fault, i didnt put enough research into the lip.

now i want a mugen, but im getting off topic

if your going to be using the civic as a gas saver and not doing any mods, you might as well go for a 96 pr 97
