What to look for and watch out for when buying a 4th Gen. Civic?

Hello everyone. I am sure someone have posted these questions before. I am looking a 4th Gen. and besides the condition of the body, mileage and the basic, what else to look for? For example, how can I tell if a clutch is about to go for a Civic? Thanks!

These days you only really have to worry about the body. Everything else can be replaced for cheap or upgraded for slightly more. You'll still wanna take it for a drive but if nothing feels brutal, it's in your $ range and the body is sound...pick it up

What Happy said. Every 4th gen or CRX I've found sells before I even get the chance to get things looked at. If it''s in good shape, and is a good price, you better move quickly. These things are selling within hours of being printed in the Auto Trader.

I really wanted Texcera's CRX.

#1 thing is look under the floors, if rotted don't buy, is there rust on the car , quarters, bring a magnet or tap it if you know the difference between the cheese and metal you'll know that it's been butchered before, i can tell the difference but im not sure if you can. If theres rust on the car, you'll be spending quite some cash to fix it right with some metal. Have you ever drove stick, you'll notice the difference between a burnt clutch and a clutch that is still okay, but a brand new one is like $150 anyway plus labour, if tranny grinds you know its fucked up. Check the door hinges, rear hinge, my 2 door hinges were siezed and just about tio fall out but i replaced the hinges. If it's an Si check the sunroof for leaks or rust if it's seized up.
That's about it, but mostly the body you should look for in good condition b/c the rest can be replaced very easy with not alot of cash to spend.

What would you do with a magnet to find rust?

Try to stick in on the body... if metal, magnet sticks, if bondo/fiberglassed magnet does not stick.

Thanks for all the replys. It so hard to find a 4th Gen. (reasonable priced) without major rust. Oh well, I am still looking. Wish me luck.

Thanks for the props My Blue Si I hope to take it out to a couple of meets next year, but my main goal right now is getting it ready for the Niagara CRX meet. Thats my main meet and my car has to be in top shape and condition for that day.
Anyone hear of the N8 meet?
