What do you guys think of the VW GTI 20th AE?

I really recommend going to VW Vortex and reading their threads for a few months. You'll get a better idea about what the OWNERS think of their cars and what kinda problems they have.
What we THINK is irrelevant. For what it's worth, it's a spectacular looking car, very mean and agressive looking.

I like how they look (especially in yellow!) but $34k for a GTI 20th anniversary edition?? There are other cars that I would much rather spend my money on. For what it is, I think that it's way overpriced!!

i'd just get the regular 1.8t
the only difference it seems like are the body kit and the heavy *** 18s. plus the lowered susp.
it's cool. but not worth 34k. i'd just settle for the 26k gti 1.8t and add to it.
the 1.8t's are great. i'd take it over an rsx or even a new sir to tell u the truth, even over the rsx-s.
but that's just me. i know the reliability isn't close to honda's and that they're made in mexico, brazil and shyt. but, i love the stock performance figures on it, plus the noticable boost in figures after tuning, not like hondas when cai and an exhaust adds like 5hp and 0 tq in total... also the euro style is growing on me, oettinger, wide bbs rims, etc.
where else can you get +60hp/tq or so for $300-$500 bucks just for reflashing/tuning the ecu, with totally stock components?

actually, the first 1.8t was a 150hp, in 2002 they started putting out the 180hp 1.8t which was a big difference, and with the 20th anniversay it's a whole other story, you get the lip kit, 18" BBS, 20th anniversay brakes and suspension, 1.8t 180hp engine, 6 speed gear box, man just put in an APR chip and full turboback and your set. I think there priced pretty fairly, considering all the goodies you get with it. The only problem I've seen with the 20th anniversay's is that the rims where getting white spots and the dealers refused to replaced them, but a bunch of owners (around 100 or more from North America) got together a petition and gave it to VWoNA to get compensated. The white spots were caused by the brake dust that was going on the special clear coat of the rims.

BBS OE VW rims have been **** for years. The early Wolfsburg edition Jettas with the 16 inch 2 peice alloy BBS rims had the clearcoat lift and peel in a pretty nasty manner. VW also refused to service these poor suckers. VW has by far the worse track record in terms of service at the dealer. That Wolfsburg thread is also on the Vortex. Just go on there and you'll see...
