Toronto Honda sucks, don't go there
I'm not sure how many of you guys heard of it, but Toronto Honda had a promotion where you get free oil changes in 2008. It was posted in lots of places. Anyways, the idea of a promotion like this is to (hopefully) impress the customer so that they bring their car there, correct? Well they failed EPICALLY. I am never going to this place again. I've spent like nothing there and yet I feel ripped off.
To make a long story short, their service is just pathetic. I'm not going to lie, I wasn't suddenly going to bring my Civic there for all my maintenance if service was good, BUT, there ARE some things you need to go to the dealer for (parts, abs diagnostics, etc), and I won't be going there, and neither will any of my friends or family.
First of all a lot of their staff are rude. Last time I went there, I was waiting in line, and when it was my turn the guy who was supposed to help me turned to his coworker and clearly/loudly said "omg can you help him I am late for my break" and was all pissy. I've only brought it there maybe 3 times total and two out of those times the employees seem annoyed. It also took 3+... yes, over 3 hours for them to do the oil change. I don't mean to be picky, I'm not demanding it to be done in record time but 3 hours?? It wasn't even busy at all.....I was on time for my appointment. What a waste of time, any dealer would do it in an hour...
Second of all they are such scam artists when it comes to the interval. Their recommended is 6k/3 months. They write on the sticker for 4 months or 6k, but whatever. But the point is, it's ALWAYS X milage, or Y months, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. Well my friend is at the dealer now, she got an oil change there on Oct 17th, she has gone maybe 6500 km since her last one, and the guy was refusing to give her the oil change!! He was saying to come back in February 17th (4 months since her last one), despite the KM being over! Funny how they STRESS that it's "whichever comes first" when you're paying but this guy was actually trying to tell her to wait until February to do it (because then she would have to pay since it's the new year). That would've been like 13000km on dino oil and filter, it's ridiculous and WAY over the specified maintenance.
Simply unacceptable that they would do this. I can live w/ the rude treatment and long wait times, I understand it WAS free (however, IMO, if they want repeat customers then they should be nice to the people getting free oil changes, otherwise why throw away money doing them if you're going to treat them like **** and make them not come back..). But flat out lying and telling someone that they should wait 13000 km for an oil change (again, it's dino oil on a 98 civic not synthetic or anything) is just f*cked up, coming straight from a service advisor at your local Honda dealer.
PS. None of their outlets work for your laptop
Any other experiences?

Not to be a dick or anything, but this is almost like complaining about canadian tire services and whatnot.
Its your choice, they didnt make you drive there and book an appointment. And if its free, then why complain?
Maybe the guy was having a bad day and just had to get off the desk.
Service advisors arent machines lol
But yes it is bad that they did treat you and/or others with attitudes and whatnot.
You have choices, wait 3 hours for your free oil change or...
Walk out the door and drive over to your nearest Jiffy Lube and let a 18 year old fresh out of school play with your car...
Or get down and dirty and do it yourself
I personaly will NEVER bring a car into a dealership for oil changes, I just do it all myself
Always have.

they told my buddy he HAD to come back to honda for his oil chages dont remeber why he said that and he said if you dont use honda oil filters, its going to void the warranty and he had to use honda oil and he said the benefit of paying the extra buck for the honda oil filter was you can go 2 oil changes with out changing the oil filter unlike after market ones.

wow, thats some crappy service. Although, when ur at work and are late for your break are you not grumpy? I can see both sides of the story here. Knowing that you work in a customer service environment, you have to be willing to go that extra mile for the customers.
Unfortunately with situations like this where its "he said, she said" its easy for things to get mixed up....especially when women are involved (no offense, seriously). Its just that MOST women don't give 2 ***** about thier car and servicing it properly and what someone says and what a women hears can be 2 totally different things. I can vouch for this from past experiences working at car dealerships.
At the end of the day its about giving the customer good service to ensure they will want to return for more business, but not all people that work at dealerships (and don't make very much money) care all the time to do this.

If you bothered to open the owner's manual for the 1998 Civic, you'd find that under normal service conditions Honda calls for changing oil every 12,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first, and the oil filter every 24,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first. Her car running up that sort of mileage (3000 km per month) implies highway use which is considered normal service conditions.
Anything more frequent than that is unnecessary and not required to meet warranty requirements or protect engine life.
If your friend had gone only 6500 km and 3 months since her last oil change, she was still 5500 km or 9 months (whichever comes first) from the next recommended oil change. The service rep wasn't misleading anyone when he said to come back on Feb 17. He was simply working with Honda's recommended maintenance intervals and she would have had her oil changed at the appropriate interval based on that service advisor's recommendation.
They were not flat-out lying as you claim, but you are flat-out slandering them without justification.

Every year. I ****** out my mileage between five vehicles, so none of them ever reach 12,000 km in a year. Hell, one of them barely saw 1,200 km this year.
The only one that gets changed twice a year is the garden tractor. For the others, changing oil and filter more often is just a waste of time, money and effort.

And.... what's this??? http://www.honda.ca/HondaCA2006/Your...e&TrimID=8&L=E *gasp* is it something coming straight from Honda saying that it should be changed every 6k or 3 months? WHY YES IT IS! Does it also clearly say at the very top that it's "whichever occurs first"? YES IT DOES!
Slander? Hardly. And 12k on dino oil is ridiculous. If "new engines" are so capable of going 12k on dino oil then why is the service interval for a 2004 civic every 8k, and my mom's 2006 lexus is also 8k (or 6 months). Did we take a step back technology wise? Is the motor in a 98 Civic made to run better on dirtier oil without damage than a brand new one? I don't think so.

I agree with what you're saying in terms of service, honestly I wouldn't care about pissy employees if everything else was fine. The "final straw" was flat out lying and saying that she shouldn't change her oil until 4 months, regardless of milage. That's actually something serious when it comes to car maintenance. The bad customer service and 3 hour wait time was just a bonus :P.
****ed up
I agree about the customer service, like I said earlier it wasn't the "big deal" part that made me post this. I see what you're saying about he said she said but in this case I trust that she knows what she's talking about.
Um, if they required service interval is 12000km, then why did they write it 6000 in advance on this sticker every time I've went there, and why did they write it for 4 months in advance and not 12? If the rep truly wanted to follow that maintenance schedule then he would say to come back when it hits 12000 km or in Oct, not in Feb (which is the date 4 months in advance of the last oil change on sticker) regardless of milage. He was clearly ignoring the "whichever comes first part" and wanted to delay the oil change until next year, which is why he said February regardless of milage

Look it up for yourself and then ask your self, would an official Honda site would be recommending 12,000 km oil change intervals if such intervals was harmful to a Honda engine? I don't think so!
As of 2002, GM Northstar engines can go 12,000 MILES (19,500+ km) OR MORE between oil changes on dino oil.
The newer Northstar V8s use an "oil life monitor" light rather than a specific mileage interval or service schedule to indicate when oil changes are needed. The PCM tracks engine rpm, operating temperature, load, running time and ambient temperature to calculate oil life. Up until 1999, the maximum oil change interval under ideal conditions was 7,500 miles. In 2000, GM bumped the upper limit to 10,000 miles. In 2002, they did away with the upper limit altogether stretching the oil change interval to 12,000 miles or more, depending on operating conditions. However, GM does say the oil should be changed at least once a year regardless of mileage.
The old standard of 5,000 km to 7500 km oil change intervals has long been obsolete. Oil gets dirty with use, but today's oils resist viscosity breakdown and sludge accumulation far better than the oils of yesterday, which in turn translates into longer usable oil life. Improved lubrication qualities mean far less issue with engine wear which also means far less accumulation of debris in oil, again extending usable oil life. Improved engine design also adds into the mix. Whatever debris does occur in the oil gets filtered out by the oil filter.
It's a much different world today as far as oil changes go. Many shops will still recommend more frequent service intervals saying it's better "safe than sorry", but what they're really saying is that oil changes are a steady cash cow for them that they don't want to easily give up.
