took out a gsr teg with mods

took one out lowered breathers...decent torque around town obviously you have to get it above 5500 rpm for any real fun...wasn't that fast though but a nice ride all around.

ya, gsr's aren't all that great when they are somewhat stock.....whats awesome though is being in an 92 civic hatch with a 99 type R, lightened flywheel, race clutch, tein fully adjustable suspension, polyurethane bushings....for everything on the car...(bushing wise) swaybars....etc......now thats enjoyable

the nice thing about that motor is how smooth it is...i like how the secondary intake runner opens up at 4300rpm and then VTEC past 5500rpm. sounds almost like double the vtec! lol

but yes, i agree that the motor is more fun in a civic with mods.

sorry man, if you were in vancouver, i'd give you a ride in one! honestly though, i don't know what guys are talking about when they say, 'i can FEEL the vtec'.....unless it's an S2K or nsx, the smaller motors just make more noise in my opinion. i'll admit, that the tach rips up to red faster once in vtec though...but it's no turbo push

what are you talking about? i thought you can actually feel VTEC pull with B-Series motors?

i have a D16Z6 ya ya, i can hear it at high rpm/short ram noise, but many people say you can really feel it pull with DOHC VTEC engines

I've heard that H22s are the smallest engines that give the driver a feel of added power when VTEC hits.

I'm in the same boat as you, Tego. I've never driven a VTEC powered Honda.

Drive two SOHC's back to back. One with VTEC and one without. You will notice a difference in pull, especially above 5K, no doubt.
The reason why the transition between cam lobes is so smooth is that Honda engineers designed it that way. A drastic step in the powerband is not a desirable thing for a vehicle designed for transportation purposes, especially in the rain or snow.

Actually, a drastic step in the powerband means that the VTEC point is set at the wrong RPM.
