Teg AWD conversion

I just browsed the latest issue of Honda Tuning...

They have an article describing the process of bolting on CRV parts to a Integra for a AWD conversion.

Just wondering what other people think about this, and how adaptable this process would be to a 5G civic hatch?

Being that the CRV is based off a civic chassis, wouldn't it be easier to do the conversion?

Also, does anyone know the rough $$ for the CRV parts??? I'm tempted to do this conversion for my car if it yields performance benefits and if it's practical.

imported_eth0r 07-Oct-2003 07:56 PM

what the hell? it just takes crx parts for a full conversion?

cibs 07-Oct-2003 08:04 PM

??? how would rex parts help with AWD?

imported_nautica_t 07-Oct-2003 08:21 PM

i think he means CRV, cuz the CRV is AWD.

cibs 07-Oct-2003 08:22 PM

ya that's what i thought at first....

punkindrublic 07-Oct-2003 09:30 PM

i read the article...

they didn't even mention the crx.... i remember they mentioned that in europe honda did make an integra with d series engine and 4 wheel drive... but i think they used the crv drive train since the car already had a b18c5....

also you know how the crv is based on the civic... well the integra is pretty much the same as a civic... except for more hp... bigger brakes etc...

imported_loudsubz 07-Oct-2003 09:43 PM

they also did a CRX with CRV AWD, turned out to be a nice lil rally car.

I have the magazine in front of me now. They used a CRV draintrain for the AWD.

ya thats what i thought but i couldn't remember exactly... i did remember them mentioning that integra that came stock with a d series 4 wheel drive too though....

it would be something cool to throw on for the winter here though

TauMax 07-Oct-2003 10:41 PM

Oops!

I meant CRV not CRX ... confusing as they're both based off of the civic chassis.

Anyway, I've corrected my original post to avoid future confusion.

That's what I was thinking too... I could use the extra traction in the winter, for the 5% of the time where our roads are snowed in... also, with real time AWD true drifting could be done in a civic!!!

I wouldn't want to put much power through it. The CRVs have some really small axels compared to other SUVs.

imported_dented dx 08-Oct-2003 12:28 AM

i do belive ther was a 4 wheel drive civic and crx

For an EK Sedan, you can use the CRV parts directly because the wheel base is the same. The parts for the conversion roughly range from 3000 to 6000 depending on the condition of these parts (new or used). I actually bought the kit and that's why I needed to sell my turbo kit to come up with the rest of the money for the conversion. Unfortunately, I don't know whether or not you can link up the transfer case to any other engine besides the B20. In any case, my application will involve the B20 anyways so, there will be no guessing. The only problem I'm facing is where to redirect the midpiping for the exhaust...thinking of running it down the passenger side of the car...dunno yet. Still, a lot of planning is needed. I have all winter to think about it. Heh.

Cheers,

I thought CRV's realtime drive only engages when the road becomes slippery. It is not on 4WD all the time, right?

Honda also made a 4WD version of the Honda Domani which is the JDM equivalent of the 97-00 Acura 1.6EL.

I'll even pick ya up...I'm really interested in this article you guys are talking about...I need solid info when doing my conversion...call my cell...it's off silent so, heh, you can call me now.:D

TauMax 08-Oct-2003 05:53 PM

Cool, man.

So you're actually going to do the conversion?

I assume you have an EK sedan?
Can you describe more about your planned swap?

Sounds very interesting!
