Stolen Cars

Hey guys... I know I don't post much here, but I just want to warn everyone to be careful this summer. Last year was really bad in the states for stolen imports and I have this bad feeling it's gonna be bad in TO as well. Yesterday afternoon, my friend's car was stolen in broad daylight (4pm), the guys waited for him till he opened his garage, rushed him, hit him with bars and pulled a gun on him. He handed over his keys and they took off. I'm sure if you were at ImportFest, Speedorama or live in the Markham area you'd recognize his car. Be on the look out for parts, his car was a red '92 Civic Hatch with S2000 tail lights, bomex front bumper and side skirts, buddy club rear bumper, type r top spoiler, 2 red sparco sprints, a clarion touch screen dvd, apex'i N1 N/A, and some other untraceable items. They probably thought he had an engine too.. good thing he didn't get that done as soon as he planned cause that would have been gone too!

About a month ago my friend's '95 Civic coupe with light mods was stolen from the Future Shop parking lot at Yonge/Finch.

I remember hearing a story of a TCC member having his car stolen from Kennedy Commons?

Just be careful and smart about where you park your car and when. I don't want this board to sound like Honda-Tech.com where there are constantly new "MY CAR IS GONE!" posts. Take care guys.

That really bites. I've seen your friends car. Does he live off of Brimley? I'll keep an eye out for it.

Is it only cars that have a lot of modifications done to them that are targetted?

Geez...I'm already nervous enough walking in parking lots

Yeah his car was definitely showy... but i'm equally as scared for my "sleeper" looking car. It's usually the sleeper looking cars that people take a risk and hope it has some amazing suspension and engine components. He lives in the Brimley/14th area.

simple solution is to have a fuel switch hidden in your car. if your paranoid have an ignition switch as well. simple things to do. imposible to start the car. problem solved.

If the guy has a gun then your screwed.
"start the car or ill shoot you"

Hard to give up, but your life is what is most important.

I have a better solution.
Boomerang tracking devise.
They can take the car, then you call the cops and the tracking systems, they find your car probably as its going to the chop shop.

One bad thing I heard was that its like a cell phone signal so it can go out of range if underground, in a bad area. etc..

Theres no doubt that toronto has a few chop shops. There has to be.

I bet you there is a team that steels nice cars then strips and sells them for parts. Easy way to make money, ditch the car,

I can geuss that maby 10-20% of the things posted on the forums are stolen.
I can geuss that 1 in every 4 hybrids have stloen moters..
rims, stereos, kits and moters are a very quick dollar.

What cops need to do is find is the chop shops (if there is any) and crack down on car theft.

But, they will be to busy pulling us over to herass us after they know your cars not stolin.

Thats my 3cents for the day.

Just an FYI and a reality check. Thieves (usually) take cars for their parts. One reason the Civic is such a popular car to be stolen is because there are lots out there.... Because there is a large market for parts, OEM or aftermarket, thieves will take a Civic. Lots of cars, lots of people need parts. Yes, even a mis-matched coloured fender could be sold to someone who banged up their original fender....

Just my $0.02....

Yeah, Civic's are just so easy to tear apart. The parts are so interchangeable. That's why a theif would even grab a stock 98 Integra, the parts from 1 stock car are worth so much to people on the boards.. just like us. A boomerang system just doesn't seem worth it to install on a Civic. Oh.. and there are many chop shops in Toronto... i've heard of places that give $5000 cash for any integra dropped off or about $1000 for a stock civic.
