Some interesting point
I learn something new and just like to share.
I had a chance to speak with a retired Ford engineer. I forgot how we started talking about synthetic oil / spark plugs / best engine brand.
I was curious about the benefit(s) of using synthetic oil? He told me that, if I really want the full benefit of it I pretty much has to use it right from the beginning otherwise it is not really worth using it. He did pointed out that under the same condition the engine that uses syn oil will definitely last longer.
I was also curious about using platinum spark plug? He told me that platinum will basically oxidize slower than regular copper but it really doesnot help to increase performance that much.
I asked him what engine brand would be the best or better in the market. He said hands down to Toyota...he was making a joke on the how Ford engineers (in his days) were trying to match the quality of a toyota engine but the cost of it make it hard to do so. And he said, generally speaking the reason why toyota engine is the best (reliablity) is that there internal are so well bulit and the engine walls are very smooth and the chance for anything to leak is rare.

not to start a huge debate but i think that considering something like 50-60% of canadians own a civic or have owned one says something.honda markets their product on the longevity of the motors most hondas will go to about 400,000 kms if taken care of.im not saying toyotas wont but u dont see that very often.

imo it's possible for anything.....there is always going people who think one is better then the other...i just like to believe that if you take care of anything it's going to last....again that's only my opinion....i'm sure there is someone to say something about it...

I think its a pretty well known fact that Toyotas are the most reliable and durable cars on the road, hands down. Not that others aren't very very good (honda), but I really think Toyota is the king, now does that mean they have the best car, not for everybody.....

civic is the best selling car in canada and its going to stay that way for a while
http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/jc/compact2.htm
there is no doubt that toyota cars as a whole are the most reliable cars, thats just a fact (yes even more than honda)
but its also a fact that if u take proper care of most modern cars, they will last very long
as far as 50%-60% if canadians own a civic i dont think so. that means more than half the population has (or has owned) a civic lol

honestly speaking toyotas do make good engines .. and Cynikal name any car it burns oil... including the (up to 03) sunflowers, cavis and others with the 2.2 ecotech. Every car in this world is built and made to have flaws, its the way it is. when the ls6 and ls8 came out (in the vettes and cts-v's) the check engine light would come on around 15-18k because the 3 bolts that hold the cam spocket comes off and sets the code for the cam sensor for no reading because the cam slightly moves forward (something like that) and that can lead to an engine overhaul. but we all think this because every1 here (except whiplass) is a honda driver. imo toyota's drive way 2 soft for me like i would fall sleep soft. but we all drive honda's for there pervious history (reliabilty) and that is why i would take a honda anyday.

i think toyotas are good reliable cars... but its the style that keeps them away from best selling...
and honda seems to know how to squeeze every single bit of horsepower out of a small engine, no other maker knows how! haha...
one more thing, no car beats the civic fuel efficiency imo... sure there are cars with better mileage, but its because they have wayyyyyy lower power

what you might have heard was maybe that 50-60% of compact economy cars sold in canada are hondas or something....that would make sense...
