Senior gets off street racing charge?!?!

Although I don't condone with speeding/racing, this is just b/s. Do the crime, you do the time.

whaaaaaaaaaa im not even going to start on this this is bull**** and descrimenation on young kids and bull****, grrr because hes old he doesnt have to get charged the street racing law.

just wondering is there anywhere we can bitch at this or even make it a huge story because i dont think its fair for the people who have been charged with the street racing law. this fumes me and i havent been charged just why are there different laws for different people!!

why even have laws in the first place

zyepher 22-Feb-2008 08:11 PM

They arn't the only ones who got it dropped to 49.

and boohoo why do you guys even care? does it even damn matter as long as you dont go over 50 then why get mad its not like you will be in that circle of people.

EfOwnzU 22-Feb-2008 08:44 PM

no its the fact i have to follow the laws and if i was in the same situation they would have raped me and the media would have made me look like a monster but to this guy he simply doesnt get charged when he was speeding 50 over!!

so why should i follow the laws if they will be bent for other people?

highonpsi 22-Feb-2008 09:09 PM

in that article is a very true statement, ""The police are a little out of control I'd say," said Biggs. "I have total respect for law, but they're going a little overboard."

This stupid law for going 50 over is rediculous and needs to be removed. The laws in this province just keep getting more and more rediculous.

I agree...

Whether the law is a good one or not shouldn't be the issue here.

The article clearly shows the warped perception of these people because it states that this is "a law designed to reduce street racing fatalities among young drivers."

Yet this old man was caught red handed doing exactly what "young drivers" supposedly do to cause these fatalities. However, being 79 we can bet his eye sight isn't what it used to be, his reaction time isn't what it used to be, and his awareness isn't what it used to be. So if anything, this old man, clocked at 50km/h over the limit, is a far greater hazard then any young driver.

So then why is he being treated in a leniant fashion? THAT is the issue.

A law is a law is a law. No two ways about it.

The following line below is what makes me think, wtf??

"However, he also said the street-racing law was not meant to be applied to seniors driving to a doctor's appointment."

So he has a doctor's appointment?? so what?? Does that mean I can go 50 over the limit, because I have a doctor's appointment?? Probably not.

I guess its not considered street racing if your a senior, even though its the same crime.

True say....I won't kill anyone either so why should I worry about someone who killed a person getting off....meh

Pure bull**** argument buddy....why even make laws then?

P.S. don't take it too personally eh...:smash:

I believe this is what sociologists call "age discrimination"...??

Well if you don't commit the crime then don't let it worry you?

and death vs speeding is a little different don't you think?

I've seen other ppl get it dropped from 50 to 49 and I don't see it making headlines its like this is the first time they dropped it from 50 to 49. It all depends on your driving record if a cop or jp will let lenient or not or if they like you.

and for efownzu maybe its because you drive a civic or a riced delly that makes you a target for police which you already knew before getting into the scene.

some of you guys

(rant)
A classic double standard.
Baby Boomers are the aging generation making the ridiculous laws and by-laws today to oppress youth to suit themselves. Don't just except that every new law and by-law is for "your best interest". The older and weaker they get, the more laws they will invent to oppress you.
Most importantly, don't inherit your parents guilt and regrets.
Be young, have fun, don't be afraid to make mistakes.

Oh, here's another example. Most of these Boomers never saved a penny to their name because they were too busy having a good time. So what did they do?.... change the retirement age from 65 to infinity! How is a young person supposed to get ahead if they insist on keeping a death-grip on their positions and dieing on the job?

Sorry... i know this has nothing to do with some fossil getting a speeding ticket but double standards get me pretty lit up.

i concure. Although, on a greater plan the reason for abolishing the retirement age was to prevent minorities and immigrants from taking their jobs.

DumbasSi 23-Feb-2008 02:22 PM

Iknew it would get some people all fired up.

So, if I got a large speeding ticket could I get off because I don't fit the profile of a young street racer?

Cynikal.Mindset 23-Feb-2008 02:33 PM

meh, O.J. got off on a double murder...but I still say he didnt do it...he's the juice!!!

Shazza 23-Feb-2008 03:03 PM

last i checked 130 km/h is 130 km/h is 130 km/h. the reason for speeding and person behind the wheel should never be an issue. it's the number that's the issue.

this sends a mixed msg to everyone, including young ppl, that speeding by 50 km/h is ok so long as you're not racing another vehicle.

but hey, at least he got fined and 4 demerit points.

ForSale 23-Feb-2008 08:36 PM

we must keep in mind, radars are not perfect, they measure distance and speed by bouncing a lazer off the car, some cars it works on better and more accurate then others, lighter cars bounce back the lazer much more accurate then a dark black car, the cops know that, so they drop few kms off, they have their own system, if some one is clocked at 20km over, for example, if you were doing 80kmh in a 60kmh zone you are going to radar at about 80km or 79km on the radar, depending on how well the lazer boucnes back and forth, so the cop has an idea, they test thier radar system on their closed tracks when they practice so they get an idea of how off or on the radar is in what situations, and as always newere technologies become better and more accurate.

so yea depending on the cop, they can be nice and lower the speed or not, it usyually depends on how co-operative you are and polite.

i got pulled over again few days ago, i was in a new part of my community with no homes just streets fully built with snow all over, i saw flashing lights so i turned my light on and slowly went to the main street and i saw a car pulled over, then i think oh ****, cuz i didn't see the car pulled over from 2km's away, anyways, i didn't want to seem suspicious so i made the turn towards th cop to pass him, lol and he is pissed and comes infront of me and tells be with a angry voice pull over right now and tur off your car. so i do that.

after he's done with the other guy he tells me to make a u-turn and go infront of him, so i do that, he comes to my window in few minutes and says with a semi angry voice what were you doing there there is no construction there, i said to him, i went to go see the property for our potential purchase of a home, and he said why now when theres snow, i told him, lol its winter and its been snowing almost everyday what do we expect, so he calmed down a bit, before he said anything i told hime that i live in that direction, and we sold a home in the other direction, so he was surprised, he politely asked me for my id, so i gave it to him, he checked it and came back all nice and polite, he saw that i was telling the truth, as my id showed i lived in this neighbourhood, so he was like here you go, thank you for your cooperation, have a good night, and he left.

this has happened to me like 5 times now, all in vaughan,Richmond hill, for some reason when they see i live in maple they change so fast, and become polite.

moral of the story, don't be rude, just be nice, you can't expect them to know your story, just wait till they check your id, so they know who you are, 99% of the time they think you are a criminal untill they talk to you and check your record, after which they know you are decent.

and its true, every time in the evening im out for a drive, with my base ball cap, my ride and music playing "not loud" cops think im some punk kid, lol, but in the morning cops don't even look at me when im all dressed with a tie and suit going to work, its fked up i know, knowing this i still wear the clothes i wear night time when im cruising, i won't change for some law, im not breaking it so why fear anything.

Cynikal.Mindset 24-Feb-2008 03:15 AM

its all about the "no hats" rule when riding with your boys...no hats = less heat score...its so funny, my friends and I will be goin out all in ball hats and the second we get in the car we all take em off
