Senior gets off street racing charge?!?!

Although I don't condone with speeding/racing, this is just b/s. Do the crime, you do the time.

whaaaaaaaaaa im not even going to start on this this is bull**** and descrimenation on young kids and bull****, grrr because hes old he doesnt have to get charged the street racing law.

just wondering is there anywhere we can bitch at this or even make it a huge story because i dont think its fair for the people who have been charged with the street racing law. this fumes me and i havent been charged just why are there different laws for different people!!

why even have laws in the first place

zyepher 22-Feb-2008 08:11 PM

They arn't the only ones who got it dropped to 49.

and boohoo why do you guys even care? does it even damn matter as long as you dont go over 50 then why get mad its not like you will be in that circle of people.

EfOwnzU 22-Feb-2008 08:44 PM

no its the fact i have to follow the laws and if i was in the same situation they would have raped me and the media would have made me look like a monster but to this guy he simply doesnt get charged when he was speeding 50 over!!

so why should i follow the laws if they will be bent for other people?

highonpsi 22-Feb-2008 09:09 PM

in that article is a very true statement, ""The police are a little out of control I'd say," said Biggs. "I have total respect for law, but they're going a little overboard."

This stupid law for going 50 over is rediculous and needs to be removed. The laws in this province just keep getting more and more rediculous.

I agree...

Peter H 22-Feb-2008 10:48 PM

Whether the law is a good one or not shouldn't be the issue here.

The article clearly shows the warped perception of these people because it states that this is "a law designed to reduce street racing fatalities among young drivers."

Yet this old man was caught red handed doing exactly what "young drivers" supposedly do to cause these fatalities. However, being 79 we can bet his eye sight isn't what it used to be, his reaction time isn't what it used to be, and his awareness isn't what it used to be. So if anything, this old man, clocked at 50km/h over the limit, is a far greater hazard then any young driver.

So then why is he being treated in a leniant fashion? THAT is the issue.

A law is a law is a law. No two ways about it.

phuviano 22-Feb-2008 11:17 PM

The following line below is what makes me think, wtf??

"However, he also said the street-racing law was not meant to be applied to seniors driving to a doctor's appointment."

So he has a doctor's appointment?? so what?? Does that mean I can go 50 over the limit, because I have a doctor's appointment?? Probably not.

I guess its not considered street racing if your a senior, even though its the same crime.

True say....I won't kill anyone either so why should I worry about someone who killed a person getting off....meh

Pure bull**** argument buddy....why even make laws then?

P.S. don't take it too personally eh...:smash:

Well if you don't commit the crime then don't let it worry you?

and death vs speeding is a little different don't you think?

I've seen other ppl get it dropped from 50 to 49 and I don't see it making headlines its like this is the first time they dropped it from 50 to 49. It all depends on your driving record if a cop or jp will let lenient or not or if they like you.

and for efownzu maybe its because you drive a civic or a riced delly that makes you a target for police which you already knew before getting into the scene.

some of you guys

(rant)
A classic double standard.
Baby Boomers are the aging generation making the ridiculous laws and by-laws today to oppress youth to suit themselves. Don't just except that every new law and by-law is for "your best interest". The older and weaker they get, the more laws they will invent to oppress you.
Most importantly, don't inherit your parents guilt and regrets.
Be young, have fun, don't be afraid to make mistakes.

zoomroom 23-Feb-2008 11:34 AM

(rant cont)

Oh, here's another example. Most of these Boomers never saved a penny to their name because they were too busy having a good time. So what did they do?.... change the retirement age from 65 to infinity! How is a young person supposed to get ahead if they insist on keeping a death-grip on their positions and dieing on the job?

Sorry... i know this has nothing to do with some fossil getting a speeding ticket but double standards get me pretty lit up.

i concure. Although, on a greater plan the reason for abolishing the retirement age was to prevent minorities and immigrants from taking their jobs.

DumbasSi 23-Feb-2008 02:22 PM

Iknew it would get some people all fired up.

So, if I got a large speeding ticket could I get off because I don't fit the profile of a young street racer?

Cynikal.Mindset 23-Feb-2008 02:33 PM

meh, O.J. got off on a double murder...but I still say he didnt do it...he's the juice!!!

Shazza 23-Feb-2008 03:03 PM

last i checked 130 km/h is 130 km/h is 130 km/h. the reason for speeding and person behind the wheel should never be an issue. it's the number that's the issue.

this sends a mixed msg to everyone, including young ppl, that speeding by 50 km/h is ok so long as you're not racing another vehicle.

but hey, at least he got fined and 4 demerit points.

ForSale 23-Feb-2008 08:36 PM

we must keep in mind, radars are not perfect, they measure distance and speed by bouncing a lazer off the car, some cars it works on better and more accurate then others, lighter cars bounce back the lazer much more accurate then a dark black car, the cops know that, so they drop few kms off, they have their own system, if some one is clocked at 20km over, for example, if you were doing 80kmh in a 60kmh zone you are going to radar at about 80km or 79km on the radar, depending on how well the lazer boucnes back and forth, so the cop has an idea, they test thier radar system on their closed tracks when they practice so they get an idea of how off or on the radar is in what situations, and as always newere technologies become better and more accurate.

so yea depending on the cop, they can be nice and lower the speed or not, it usyually depends on how co-operative you are and polite.

i got pulled over again few days ago, i was in a new part of my community with no homes just streets fully built with snow all over, i saw flashing lights so i turned my light on and slowly went to the main street and i saw a car pulled over, then i think oh ****, cuz i didn't see the car pulled over from 2km's away, anyways, i didn't want to seem suspicious so i made the turn towards th cop to pass him, lol and he is pissed and comes infront of me and tells be with a angry voice pull over right now and tur off your car. so i do that.

after he's done with the other guy he tells me to make a u-turn and go infront of him, so i do that, he comes to my window in few minutes and says with a semi angry voice what were you doing there there is no construction there, i said to him, i went to go see the property for our potential purchase of a home, and he said why now when theres snow, i told him, lol its winter and its been snowing almost everyday what do we expect, so he calmed down a bit, before he said anything i told hime that i live in that direction, and we sold a home in the other direction, so he was surprised, he politely asked me for my id, so i gave it to him, he checked it and came back all nice and polite, he saw that i was telling the truth, as my id showed i lived in this neighbourhood, so he was like here you go, thank you for your cooperation, have a good night, and he left.

this has happened to me like 5 times now, all in vaughan,Richmond hill, for some reason when they see i live in maple they change so fast, and become polite.

moral of the story, don't be rude, just be nice, you can't expect them to know your story, just wait till they check your id, so they know who you are, 99% of the time they think you are a criminal untill they talk to you and check your record, after which they know you are decent.

and its true, every time in the evening im out for a drive, with my base ball cap, my ride and music playing "not loud" cops think im some punk kid, lol, but in the morning cops don't even look at me when im all dressed with a tie and suit going to work, its fked up i know, knowing this i still wear the clothes i wear night time when im cruising, i won't change for some law, im not breaking it so why fear anything.

Cynikal.Mindset 24-Feb-2008 03:15 AM

its all about the "no hats" rule when riding with your boys...no hats = less heat score...its so funny, my friends and I will be goin out all in ball hats and the second we get in the car we all take em off

zoomroom 24-Feb-2008 07:24 AM

^^LOL 'no hats' due to profiling! Stupid cops are unbelievable.

rick10 24-Feb-2008 10:48 AM

well its not like the guy got off completely , he still received a ticket and some points. And yes it is true depending on your attitude and the excuse you have the cops can give you a break.

It happened to me twice already , one i beat a red light (more like a yellow) and i told the cop that my gas light was on (which was true) so i had to get to the gas station and that i was so sure i passed a yellow light , he told me to becarefull and only gave me a warning

second time was recently , same thing , but i told him it was because the roads were sliperry and i didn not want to skid , i got off that one too

It also depends on the car you have , they are more likely to give you the ticket if your car looks mod (racing style) , depends on the clothes you have , so many things

It's not fair but it's the true.

Also, it depends a lot on your record , if the cops sees that this is your first time speeding he would most likely give you a break , but it he sees you have many speeding tickets he would try to give you a hard time

yea, its true, although, i didn't know people took it this serious, i remember, one of my buddies quickly taking off his hat when a cop passed by in the opposite direction in regular traffic at only 7pm in the summer,i knew why but never knew that some people really took this seriously to a point where they take it off everytime, i still wear mine, my hairs messed up, which is the reason why i wear it so why take it off.hehe.

yea, i hate this damm profiling, i notice, if a cop is giving you a hard time just mention where you work, if its a good job, i just show my bank card and its all good.lol or my ID. twice i didn't even get checked for insurance, registration, just drivers license, if i was in peel ohh man, i'd get tickets left and right.

agree to all, but for some reason, i don't get any tickets even though i have three now on my record, maybe i got my name changed so it dosen't show, but it should its the same license, or i just have crazy luck in york region. When i was in peel region i always herd stories of people getting off the hook without tickets, always though it was amyth untill now, i hope my luck stays like this, if its because i live in a decent area now, im not moving from here.hehe

when i was in peel, it was like i attrated cops.lol and i had a normal car, but then again, almost everyone gets pulled over in Brampton and missisauga and scarb.

this law still hasn't defined what is street racing i think...it's too vague...so it's basically the OPP's discrection.

Thats life, we wont change it, who cares.
Life is always gonna be discriminating, all we can do is rant about it.

FPMotorsports 25-Feb-2008 10:30 PM

Krystyn no 1 in there rightful mind will rape you :) LOL.
But if you’re doing 81 in an 80 u will get PULLED over.
It's only cuz Ur "Uncle Bens" Del Slow attracts so much attention: P

But there’s really nothing we can do. I was given 54ish tickets in 1 yr.... why? In all honesty about 49 of those tickets I was doing nothing wrong. Simply this was the equation nice car + windows down + young driver = PULLED OVER.

Lately it's been different... cops aren’t pulling as much honda/acuras over now...as they are being told not to... I know this cuz I was told from various officers / members of the courts/city... but they will still pull u over the odd time for the hell of it... and God help u if u actually are at wrong.... They will do w.e it takes to give u the full penalty unless there lazy or what not.

If you really don’t want get pulled over follow these rules :

Don’t rice out your ride ( No huge spoilers, no under car lights, don’t put a million gauges on your side and a huge monster tach )
Don’t put a huge fart can exhaust mated to a stock exhaust piping setup
Don’t put some flashy stickers on or offensive stickers like " I know I know pull over "
Don’t put really dark tints
Don’t put ur system on full blast while driving around its called " unnecessary noise " and also some other ticket that u cannot hear sirens n ****.
Don’t drive stupid & follow the law!

And maybe u'll get pulled over 6 times a year... with 3 bull**** tickets cuz those 3 cops just want to meet there quotas.

EfOwnzU 26-Feb-2008 01:04 PM

lol ^ funny first my uncle ben del sol is not orange anymore and hasnt been for a year so i dunno how u get off of calling it uncle benz....jealousy is a mofo hun......and who are u to be talking about my cars lol? just wondering really who are u?

Chigga 26-Feb-2008 07:31 PM

it doesnt matter if you have stickers or gauges, thats BS.
you obey the road no problems.

you disobey then you got whats coming to you.

What rock have you been living under over the past several months? The regulations defining what constitutes street racing and stunting have made the rounds of the auto forums many times over. Ignorance really is no excuse given all the publicity to the revised laws.

i agree with this guy....they are blowing this whole street racing thing out of proportion.....and especially with the profiling of younger drivers. But I'm neutral to this senior, i got caught doing 52 over...but the guy dropped it to 15 and i later got it reduced to 10 over....just be respectful, polite and co-operate with the law...i got lucky cause i had a clean record...if i didn't, i would've been ****ed...i learned my lesson and slowed the **** down....theres really no reason to go 50 over other than your life being endangered e.g people trying to run you off the road or another emergency.

im also surprised that the police wanted airplanes to combat street racing...why not just build a track up north...theres lots of land and many places where it could be built away from communities and homeowners. i do not mind paying the city a fee to race on their track....saves me a trip to Cayuga or shannonville, id rather give them some of the gas money i would've spent to race on their track and save myself 200-300km of driving there and back.
