Rant about plates being seen
#21
i dont think it matters that much. for example...
a thief browsing an internet board..say TCC...looks at several pictures of a nicely done civic (plates covered)..now he knows where the owner lives...as in 99% of cases, our location appears under our avatar...plus...if they track and spend some time reading your posts....they can perhaps figure where u live in that neighborhood and even what is your phone number (you put up something for sale and give out your contact info...or...you are meeting your buddies and give out ur specific location etc.)
just imagine how much ppl give out in terms of personal info. on the internet boards these days...where u work, how much money u make...where are you usually sighted or the route you take to work etc.
lastly...i heard of one incident once where some guy joined a club...spent a good couple of months there..always gave out false information....went to meets...picked up the car he wanted to jack and ultimately did.
so the point is...if someone is to steal your car...it will get stolen one way or the other....back luck just.

Ok, you block your plate in a pic for that sense of security, but they still know what your car looks like know, and becaue of that they can still get it if they want. Yes it mite make it a lil bit harder to find, but they just need to look for the car that looks like that in the pics.
P.S. I am glad to here what every has to say on this.

yeah exactly
sense of security is just a "sense", you feel better... but in reality, does it help, is it useful, is it better... that is unpredictable...
so its just the "sense" of security...
its like you take vitamin C to prevent sickness... you can still get sick... its just if you take vitamin C, you feel the sense of security that you're protected....

For those that take the car to the track, there might be an insurance issue if an insurance company sees your plates. Some policies may not permit the use of the car in a race setting, mostly by stating that your insurance is void if your car participates in a 'timed event'.
that said, i donno how that matters... i do autox and if my insurance company said i wasn't allowed to do that, i'd cancel my auto insurance with them (two cars, virtually perfect record - i've been rear-ended once, and that was my only claim in 15years), and my house insurance. Other than that, don't know why anyone would care if their plate was on the interweb...

if a thief want's your car, seeing or not seeing your plates isn't going to make much of a difference. these thief's browse the net, go to shows and go to all the weekly hangout spots....!!!!!
you should more concerned with telling everyone and the grandmother what you have in your car and then going to shows and showing everyone what you have...
also be more concerned about people following you home @ night and the biggest place to find theives @ is most of your favourite Audio Shops & Performance Shops....

fully agreed.
a thief doesnt need to see your plates or what ever. all they need to see is the car and know they want it, if a thief wants your car he/she will get it.
