Project EG Coupe - Need Your Suggestion

Project EG Coupe - Need Your Suggestion
I finally convinced a good friend of mine to do something about his 94 Civic Coupe DX. The car has been parked in his garage for many many months. He has been driving an 03 Mercedes C class sedan while the poor Civic has been gathering all the dust and rust in the world.
So he agreed that if we can fix the EG and soup it up a little bit, he would be willing to sell his Merck. So we checked his car in detail last night (exterior, interior and engine only) and it seems like there is alot of work to be done.
The car has near 240 clicks and has not been regularly mantained nor serviced (Max...are u listening?)
I removed the fender last night and tried to take off the bumper but couldnt due to seized screws on top. (these were damaged due to an accident)
The pics are attached and i want everyone's opinion as to how to start, what to do first...a priority list of sorts. My thoughts at this time are to follow these steps.
1. Engine and Driveline
Complete checkup and maintenance update including replacing all fluids, tuning (new wires, plugs, dcap), valve adjustment, timing belt and water pump etc....perhaps a swap i dont know.
2. Exterior
Rear panel rust on both sides need to be fixed, Oxidation removal and a full repaint perhaps
3. Interior
Needs a thorough clean up, seats and carpet needs shampoo)
4. Accessories / Mods
One piece head lights, new tails, intake, header, exhaust, rims, springs etc.
All of this need $$$$....my rough estimate at this time is that minus the swap, it should take around $2000 to $3000 for all parts and labor work to get it back safely on the road but that is just an estimate....
What do u guys think....it would be ideal we can FIND A ONE STOP SHOP TO DO ALL THIS. I am also checking with affiliates but would like to hear from you guys also.....

i'd say thats an ok estimate. I know a good guy that does some great body work. PM ME for details about that. Other than that, find a used front bumper and a used drivers fender.
Gotta see whats wrong with the motor first before making any suggestions about that

lol.
crap your thread...right e o.
Anyways.
Has the car been sitting outside much?
Is there any small leaks in the car at all.
If your going to be thorough with this then I would recommend taking everything out of the interior.
Get some dry ice.
Take off all the sound deadening tar on the floor.
And look for rust under it.
I found quite a bit of rust under the tar in my car.
I never had any leaks in my car so I don't know how it got there.

If your buddy just wants to put this car on the road as a daily beater, take it to a reputable shop to have it inspected and DO as they say (don't take shortcuts)..However if he wants to put some flavour into it and be part of the and i quote "Tuner scene" then 2-3 k's will barely cover a descent paint job..g/l with the project, keep us posted!

downgrade that c-class to something like an 06 accord buddy... honda reliability, FAST, and sylish... talk to "kieran" he'll tell you how sexy those 06 accords are...
IMO, he doesn't have to downgrade all the way back down to a civic just because he can't keep up with the maintenance and cost of the c-class... maybe he can trade/sell it out and grab something still has "class" but not too expensive to maintain and has reliability...
don't convince him to spend too much on that civic... if he is running low on budget to maintain c-class... why spend the money souping up the civic... so if he just want the car as a 2nd car and drive the civic on a daily basis, you would be looking at about 2-3 grand (like you said) to clean up, engine inspection fully, change all the belts, pumps, seals, gaskets, all flushing, brake bleed, brake pads, check calipers, check rotors (probalby rust up and needs changing), battery, alternator(might need new probably), distributor cap/rotor, make sure fuel lines and brake lines are running good... check springs not rusted, probalby change the cat too... KEEP IN MIND, this is ignore decent body work to remove rust, fix any dents, and a new 2-3 layer of black paint with clear coating... also check underbody for rusts as well... another 2500-3000 you're looking at! total at minimum 5grand! to fix/repair/decent paint job to just get that car back on the road with some minor mods (if lucky onepiece, some lips, and headlights along the way)...
if minor mods doesn't convince your friend enough, he would be looking in maybe another 6-8 grand for suspension, engine, and some I/H/E
is it worth that 10G? not really IMO
good luck

the fact is that he is real *** when it comes to car mantainence. He hasnt taken his C class for maintenance for a long time...he does the regular oil change and sh*t but nothing beyond that. One mid level on his Merck will cost him at least $1000 plus he is tired of paying too much for gas. Plus there is a still alot of loan on the Merck...
The idea right now is to fix this car...he doesnt want a show car...just a regular daily driver car with some minor mods. A car that is safe and most importantly...reliable. MOREOVER...going forward he plans to buy a relatively new Civic sedan for his family who will be with him so they have two cars.
If all can be done under $4K to $5K, its worth it but more than that.....it may not be financially viable IMO. I know Walther...rust works sucks.
I have some rough estimates in mind.....
1) Entire body rust fix including bottom - $500
2) Engine maintenance Update including parts (As Walter said) - $1000 to $1200
3) Oxidation Removal and Repaint - No diea
4) Interior clean up plus misc. parts - $300
The car will not be going to Honda for obvious reasons...the job will be given a someone outside who can really do it good.

i wouldnt spend 1200 on engine maintainance you can swap another one for that much, rust fixing and new paint would cost you about 1500, so yea you can definitely fix it up for under 5k, you may even be able to swap a b16.

haha he mentioned he is tired of the gas price... so why would he swap? i guess just clean up this engine...
and regarding body work, it can cost a lot from 1500-3000 or even 5000... but all it depends on what kind of outcome the owner wants and of course if they are doing the own work... most shops charges you 1500 for paintjob alone excluding rust/dents and additional parts installation... cheap shop most often means hack job... so you know what you're getting when you go cheap... but again if you're willing to do these rust work yourself, its cheap... and if you prep everything... and simple paintjob wouldn't cost you too much.....
lastly, like nova dust said... it all depends on if your friend is willing to keep up with maintenance... "any cars" if he isn't keeping it up, its pointless to be fixed... good luck... let him learn his lesson instead of complaining on gas price and maintenance cost... when you get a high-end car, you gotta prepare to play high-end type of money hahaha

well..he is absolutely certain that he will serious about the car once it is done....and keep the comments coming...its really great to hear from all of you
yeah..the swap is a big question mark. just to let u guys know that the car does run....the engine works....but it makes so many sounds that its crazy....some of the engine work i can do myself like changing of fluids, oil, head gasket, filter and little items like that u know....wash it and im also thinking of replacing all the rusted bolts (the ones i can easily identify) just to give it a good overall appearence....
I am sure i cant do the rust work myself.....

personally the only way to fix this car is to tear it completely down and then fix it all up while your assembling it back together.
if you want to work with a budget i recommend in that case making sure that the safety part of the car gets COMPLETELY done in FULL detail. Then pay attention to the rest of the stuff.

so your friend wants to give up a 2003 mercedes to fix up a civic??? I have that EXACT same car (except in much better shape lol) ...there is no way in hell i would give up a mercedes to fix up a civic. On top of that, that car honestly looks like it needs a **** load of work, and your friend didnt do any maintenance on it whatsoever.
My advice, if he wants better gas mileage then sell his benz, sell that civic..and get a civic thats not a pos (sorry to throw in the pos but man that car probably needs more work than a 1980's Lada)
