Planning to get a 06 Civic, need advice on price

this basically says battery packs can be changed at a cost of $138ea an that most have an 8 year warranty, so not sure where you got the 5 year figure from, but yeah, there does seem to be maintenance with batteries, so unless your driving a ****load of miles, maybe gas would still be better.
this is from google, and there are lots more, some cars have 10 year battery warranties.
Hybrid cars and what you should know:

Those same critics have insisted that if you replace the batteries after the warranty expires, it will most likely cost several thousand dollars. Toyota claims prices will drop as hybrids become more popular; battery packs currently run around $4900. However the pack contains 38 modules that can be replaced individually for $138.00 each. Honda's Insight and Civic hybrids have an 8-yr./80,000-mi. warranty on most of the powertrain, including batteries, and a three-year/36,000-mile warranty on the rest of the car. The Prius has an 8-yr./100,000-mi. warranty on the battery and hybrid systems, plus a three-year/36,000-mile warranty on everything else. The electric motors and batteries don't require maintenance over the life of the vehicle.

Call APA (automotive protection agency) and they will be able to help you. For a price, they will give you the fair mark up over cost on a new car. But I can tell you that it won't be much diff with a Honda or most imports. Domestics seem to have a bigger mark up. This is based on me using APA for my purchases, new and used.

I have seen on the American site that the Hybrid is available there, but on the Canadian site they still show the old model.

Compare a 06 automatic EX sedan has a MSRP of 23,000
the $2,800 gap is not a big leap to a Hybrid.

No worries Brian, I was pretty surprised to see a 3K drop in the price of the Hybrid myself.

woh 3k drop in price for the hybrid?!?! With the extra $1000 government tax rebate... it may actually be worth it... oh well I ordered a LX sedan already

I just signed for a LX sedan MT, I got, sort of, $1000 off FINAL price... which translated to ~$860 off MSPR. But I have my old car as trade-in as well, so I'm sure that will give them a bigger margin (of possible profit) to work with. Probably could have bargin for abit more, but oh well... it's done and it's done, forget it.... waiting for new car now

On a different note, congrats oncogene on the purchase of your new car.

06 Civic just became Motor Trend's Car Of The Year. I also heard that Civics are (or about to be) on 'back-order' and dealers can't get enough to meet demand. With the announcement of it being Car Of The Year, American Honda might demand more Civics from the factories which leaves less for Canada....
If demand exceeds supply, don't expect any discounts...

But I'll actually wait til next weekend to pick it up. No time this week... and with this snow on right now, I dont want to put the new car out yet. Hoping I can have at least couple days of dry roads to get use to the car first... coz i'm used to driving a 4WD
