'tis time for accident season (get winter tires and check your brakes damnit!!!) Oh, and SLOW THE F*CK DOWN!!!

My ride (which I bought barely a month ago) got sandwitched between 2 cars on the transfer lane on the 401 going west from Keele. I encountered stop-n-go traffic at 12:50 am (surprise surprise) and the guy in front of me stopped hard because a cube van in front of him stopped hard too. Next thing I hear is tires squealing behind me and I get pushed into the guy in front of me. Then the guy behind me reverses and takes off.

I got the licence plate, but the OPP officer ran it and the plates did not match the car I saw hit me and take off.

Lucky for me the guy in front of me didn't even have a scratch, but my front (and rear with my 5-day old $300 muffler) was all fuked up.

In the end the insurance adjustor came around and game my mechanic $3200 to fix everything:
-upper-front tie bar
-front interior and exterior bumper
-radiator (was not damaged during the accident but was old so I claimed it too )
-over-the-rear-axle exhaust pipe was bent
-muffler was pushed back 15-20 cm, had a small scratch on top, muffler mounts almost completely ripped off, but the muffler itself was undamaged in any way (go Magnaflow!!!)
-rear interior and exterior bumper
-rear-right wheel well was a bit bent inwards
-right side of tailgate a bit bent but hinges intact
-hidden damage?

Bad News

You're at fault, you were following too closely.
If you gave yourself enough distance you wouldn't have hit her.

My suggestion is not to claim it.

Good News

The police will not contact your insurance company.

My Advice:

Your car looks stock, i don't think you have too much invested in it.
Drive the car and save your money, yes its pretty ghetto, but its better than putting the money back into fixing it. 4th gens are a dime a dozen and for the same money to fix it you could probably buy a new one and put a new paint job on it.

good luck

I think otherwise, insurance knows all. I've heard about a guy who had a sc in his car and when the mto pulled him over they called his insurance company telling them he has a sc.

I would have to agree that you keep this car as an everyday beater, and grab yourself a project ride.

Guys...corey_hayman is parting out his 4th gen SI and is giving me everything I need except the windshield for $80...only thing is that it's all primered flat black but who really cares cuz i need to get back on the road. JSK: only thing invested is springs/shocks, custom catback, SiR seats, and 2 infinity speakers. And police reports do get sent to insurance but it's up to me to make a claim and im not and i doubt she will either. she can fix her bumper for < then her deductible.

Accident reports are for MTO tracking purpose.

To collection information on accident location, type of crash and collision.

This data is gathered to improve road safety, for example if a particular intersection has recorded many accidents, the MTO will red flag this intersection.

The result is that you see cameras filming certain intersections and roadways to determine appropriate changes to reduce chance of collision in that location.

The re-bar. It is illegal to drive without one.

Sorry to hear your bad day. I suppose you have a lot of mixed feelings but as long as you are fine, that's the most important thing.

If you can get the replacement parts for cheap, then do it. If not, just hammer the hood down a little so water and stuff won't get in too easily, and drive it like that until you have enough to get another ride.

JSK: not true...insurance company already called my mom. They take pictures of the car and take my report and send it all to them. It might work different in Hamilton but I'd think it was a provincial thing.

Rebar will need a strong force to make it bent. Have the mechanic check it out and determine weather it needs replacement or not.
