Pearl affect on paint...

I was wondering if anyone had any sites that could explain to me a bit more about the affect adding pearl to your paint does. I have an idea of what it does, but I just want to see pictures of before and after, and how much to use and stuff like that.
Thanks

I dont have any pics of the before/after...but for my car (Electric Metallic Pearl Blue), I know that half of the mixture was the "Pearl" element...it cost me about $87 per pint of paint...I think it works with the angle that light is reflected off of it, giving it that pearly effect...Under the sun my car looks like a bright neon blue, at night it looks deep purple...

I am painting my car a red, I just haven't decided whether I wanted bright red or dark red yet. I was wondering what effect the pearl would have on each one of these colours.
Bright Red = Viper red
Dark red = Candy apple
