One a scale of One to Ten.....

One a scale of one to ten...how much confidence you have in the alarm system of your car? (provided you have one). Most of us rock the typical alarm/starter combo from Compustar, Viper and the like. So you have a hood pin, tilt sensor, proximity sensor and what not...but does it really provide some real protection.

I am posting this after reading a few incidents where cars were stolen from driveways without the owner knowing what happened....and all this while they were inside the house.

One of the most recent incidents...(4th last post)

Dhiren's car is another example from earlier on...everything was armed and she was gone with any noise. What is that these theives can bypass so easily with a fairly high tech arming system? and how can that be protected?

Just thought we can learn something from this discussion.

As I said in an earlier post, it will stop the quick ****** and grabs, but a real thief, or someone who really wants the car, can easily get it.

My OEM keyless honks the horn and works the locks. If they want it, they will get it.

Although a real alarm might be more of a noisy deterent to a pro, its better then nothing I suppose. I think the best way is to be very careful where you park out in public, but we cant always control that when at work or school or home.

I don't think regular alarm systems are all to effective, seeing as they are common place, and a thief with some experience will easily disarm one. I would personally look into making a custom kill switch that only you know how to operate, and locate. That way every time you leave the car, go to your secret location, flip the switch, or push the button to break the connection which will prevent the ignition from working.

Most thiefs don't have the time to look for where the ignition wire is tapped, and so if they can't start it, they move on.

You can also tap a few other wires that will prevent your car from starting as a back up in case the ignition was found.

Another method is to make a custom crown to place around the sensor that lets the ignition know your clutch is depressed. Everytime you leave the car, simply place the crown over the sensor which will prevent it from being activated, and thus the ignition from being initiated.

^and when shaved door handle car is in a bad accident, emergency people cant locate the door handles to open the door so they can rescue the injured personal trapped in their vehicle. which makes situation even worse.

the kill switch i think is an absolute must. is this a standard install when shops are doing alarm install or you have to request to have it done? i hope selective and/or audio heaven read this and share their expertise on the topic.

i know everybody says...if they want it....they will take it but i just dont wanna believe that...regardless how true or possible it is in reality. having said that....i also think that a standard compustar or viper install is not enough now....such setups are so common that it is far easy to bypass them.

There are some thiefs who can still take a car in 30 seconds that have 3+ kill switchs. and when I mean some I mean alot. Your best bet is fuse pullin. i.e. the 80 or 60amp
