Oil Change
Time for an oil change... another $45 out of my pocket.
price for a 4L standard castrol oil is about $17 + oil filter $5 with a grand total of $22 - $25max with taxes.
would it be better to do oil changes yourself and save the extra $20 or let someone else (shop) do it and avoid the hassle?

I do my oil changes myself. If you already have the tools it is cheaper to do it yourself then what the average shop charges for an oil change, from the prices I've seen anyways.
I've had some bad experiences in the past with a few shops, had my oil pan bolt stripped. If you can do it yourself and like to get your hands dirty from time to time, I'd say go for it.

I do it myself. Jack up the car, grab a 17mm and loosen the drain bolt and place a pan below it.
Take a sip of beer, or more and wait 10 minutes.
Tighten the drain bolt and take off the oil filter and replace it with a new one.
Take a sip of beer.
Fill the engine with oil.
Take a sip of beer.
Drive the car to check oil level, of course, not with the beer in your hand.
A nice 20 minutes job, break some sweat and have a sip of a cold one at the same time.
