Oil burn problem

Hey everyone

I have a 2000 Acura 1.6 EL Sport and I am going through a litre of oil a week. There is no oil underneath the car, so it not leaking, but yet I never smell it burning. ANyone have any suggestions of what to look at about this?

did you have this car new?? if not chances are that you bought it from somebody that has severly beat on it. I would try changing the PCV but i dont think that would be the root cause

Check the coolent. If its very dark and contaminated with oil, then it could be a headgasket or something.

if there's no blue smoke then it's not the piston rings, which is a good thing.

Try adding a litre of ATF for week, may free up rings (if one is sticking) then change oil and add Lucas, and yes it may be time to use 10W30 instead of 5W30, reduces oil consumption

A little late to the party here but Rislone does wonders for freeing up sticking rings. Like the others have mentioned, Seafoam should work as well.

A few quick question to give a better understanding of yoru car's situation. How many KMs do you put on your car in a week of driving? is it City KM or Hwy KM as it does make a difference. That said, IF(!) the car was treated correctly by its previous owners(s) 1 quart per week is excessive for a car with 177K on it.

Hey

Thanks for your reply

I was putting about 1200km/week on it, but it was all highway and I didn't drive the car hard. Now I am putting 500km/week on it and it is still the same situation. When I get my oil change in a few weeks, I may try Seafoam or Rislone as you mentioned.

Don't waste your time....Time for a new motor. The other thing you can do is rebuild it. Try performing a compression test...it'll help narrow down your search for the problem. Check the coolant for contamination aswell.

Cheers,
Buddah.
