Nissans give you one of the best HP to Dollar (HP:$) ratios of all car companies. Great car. Speedy!
You'll like it.
White looks boring imo.
Black looks elegant at night and during the day it looks very nice when washed properly.

WELCOME...
If you have any questions regarding maximas, come to me...
I am maxima KING..
I owned a 2k2, smashed it up, and now own a 2k3..
I also have a 99 Max SE pearl white/leather, etc... (my moms of course)..
Maxima is the greatest bang for the buck on this planet..
The 97-99 you are looking at if it is a 5 speed only requires like less than 1000 dollars of mods to hit mid to high 14's...
Modifications you should have:
Frankencar intake
Budget Exhaust Ypipe
These two mods alone will net you out near 20+hp at the wheels..
Come visit us

www.maxima.org
And for pics..

I always welcome new maxima drivers

Maximas are really nice and go damn fast too!! They're pretty reliable too. My dad has owned two and has no complaints about them.
Ditto on 94EG6HB's point about spoiler rust!! The rust on his previous Maxima was really bad in the trunk area. However, it was an early 90s one (1992, I believe) so you might not encounter that problem.
Good luck in your car search!

I never really like Nissan, the quality is really bad, that's just my opinion. I was involved in a crash and long back, I was searching for a car. I have visited all the dealers. VW has engine problem (99-01). Toyota V6 have oil sludge. Nissan has seal problem, water will get into the jams and openings like trunk etc... so get their rust proof waranty. Toyota gave me a lifetime waranty, never have to worry about rust, I believe all dealers have the same deal.
Right now, Honda has the lease problem. Accord V6 240 hp is good enough. i would finance it. However, if you think 2dr civic is rough with insurance, try V6 sedan. Work out your insurance before you go car hunting.
There is a site on the internet search for Canadian insurance or something like that, there is a company that will give you competitive price comparison so you know which company is cheaper. This site I am talking about is really professional and their prices pretty much match to what I am paying now.

I don't know where people get these ideas about specific manufacturers having problems of this and that..
First off, you cannot go wrong with a maxima especially with a VQ motor... Let me put it this way, HONDA never one any awards for any of its engines 9 years in a row like the VQ motor did (Best top 10 v6 in the WORLD for 9 years running)..
2nd, nissan insurance is not very expensive at all..
I pay $2600 w/ 2 tickets... I am 25 years old, i drivea NIssan 255hp 6 speed manual maxima which is also a 2003... I know civic guys that pay more than i do...
Nissan insurance is much cheaper than honda (especially considering the theft of hondas)..
Oh and another thing, Toyota's with oil sludge, Nissan with seal leaks?? wtf is that? How bout the fact that most all EK's have rust problems on the rear panels because honda designed it poorly... DUde, honestly, Honda has just as many flaws as any other import including mazdas and nissans... I would have to say for top notch reliabiltiy Toyota rocks...
CASE IN POINT..
My mom's 99 Maxima SE auto has 145,000kms on it, only required maintenance (oil changes/brakes/tires) etc.. Car still drives like new, and still plants down mid 15-high 15's on the 1/4.
Besides, HOnda can't build automatic tranny's for ****.. Remember the voluntary warranty extension for the honda accords, odysesy and the 3.2 Acuras? WTF.. thats far worse than any little seal leaking.. In fact that is probably worse than ANY problems encountered by other manufacturers. Acuras with like 50,000kms with grenaded tranny's... Sheesh..
Honda's without rust problems?? HAHHAA>. Let me put it this way, i picked up my 2k3 and opted out of rust protection because i feel that confident..
PEACE OUT.. its been fun..
Now if only somebody can help me out with my gf's 96 CIVIC... man that has more problems than my HARD DRIVEN 96 Protege that i traded in..

I don't know if people know how to read, some people never said, Nissan had a bad motor. I Looked back at the post and noticed it said seal and bad quality. Insurance is very funny and not all cars are the same, I know guys that pay $7,000 for SIR. Not going to get into that.
I have a 2003 Echo and My neighbour has Camry and Corolla. 2002 Echo has have problem with brake lines in the Winter, that is why it comes with the mud guard now. There has not yet been any new reports. Oil Sludge is a common problem for their new V6 only, that is why they recommand Synthetic...OK.... You should really read some recall reports. Heck call my dealer at Brimell Toyota and ask for yourself. It will not happen to all the cars but it has happened to most cars. http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2002/04/04/toyota-sludge.htm
****read the part that says "Toyota acknowledged Wednesday that millions of its cars and trucks could develop a ruinous oil-sludge problem and said it would repay owners who have had to make repairs." *****
http://www.underhoodservice.com/us/nissan.htm
This is just a summary, if you go to a dealer, you can confirm. I search all recalls before buying a car. Search the net for recalls, if more then 5+ sites have the same recalls, then you should have a pretty good idea, usually there are 20+. ***REMEMBER*** DIFFERENT SITE + DIFFERENT SOURCES. Different sources mean different reporters that report the same thing. You should really read some of the recalls that are reported...maybe you should contact each site on the net and tell them it never happend to you.
You can also go to Transport Canada government sites that demand recalls for public safety. http://www.tc.gc.ca/mediaroom/releases/nat/1997/97_H017E.HTM
Civic EK does have alot of problems with the fuel bump. If your gf got the car used, and those problems happened, then you know what yellow and sour is right. No one pound their car like I do all the time, everytime off the traffic light to red line.
Have some sources man...
Honda can't build Transmission???? "Dude"... you know what you are talking about? Honda don't build transmissions components... they have suppliers, like all manufacturers.
I don't know where you got that idea from... need sources, can't find it anywhere...need help. If you are talking about vans, the only recall that I found is imperfection on fuel tank. Answer me one question... why people buy Vans and trucks? Their not going to the track are they? Or is it more like picking up the family and doing work that involves heavy loading. Hualing up hill can't be good for any trans now can it?
Honda can't build transmission? Ever heard of the CVT (continously-variable transmission)? That transmission is made for Asia with heavy traffic up hill + hot weather+ constant idle+some hualing. That's is why they have CVT.
Awards? like this http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/jk/at_011205.htm
Award Communications gave Nissan's V6 the TEN best, NOT THE BEST... don't know if you know what that means. Ten best with 2 BWM, HONDA, porsche, GM, Chrysler and more... basically most of the manufacturers...SO... what is your point? That it got the same award as everyone else!
Put it this way...the lease recalls for a manufacturer the better.

Damn people need to pay attention in English class!

excellent car
I would NOT reccomend going with an earlier model however. we recently had to replace some exhaust components on my mothers 96 infiniti I30 (identical to a maxima). also had a problem with the a/c last year. cost us a hefty amout. and it seems to have lost some power over time..
overall its a very comfortable car.. my only beefs with it are the handling and visibility. i dont like glacing at my blindspot and seeing a damn headrest! but thats only cause I dont drive it very often.. I'm sure you'd adapt to the dimensions after a few days.
the handling is a little sloppy so I dont think the title 'sports sedan' is very fitting. luxury sedan IMO. maybe there are suspension differences b/w the maxima and I30??
