interesting...do you have a source for this stat?

but like you said, that's only about 5 deaths per year. again, i'm pretty sure that this is from those random stoplight drags not those organized gatherings. and anyone is responsible for those...even 50 yr old guys in their bmw's race.

What the hell! I was just racing to Kennedy Commons so you guys could have warm fresh cookies (Michelle says thanx for the compliments to all those there)

It's just the same old crap I guess - Hamilton has already been implementing there tow and go policy, where they tow your car even if your tires are too black or some ****.

Anyway, it's not my problem if they try to stop me racing, I just hope they are ready to tell with Cantonagod and PULOVR, because those two jumped Michelle's cookies lilke they were going out of style! And if I don't get them to the meets while they're fresh... well let's just say I'm not responsible for the consequences

Anybody remember that moron in the RX7 last summer?? The guy who wrapped his car around a poll up in Woodbridge? That guy wasn't even racing, he was trying to showoff to the large crowd what his "race car" can do. But because it happened at one of the so called "hotspots", it adds the street racing statistics. These are the types of drivers we need to get off the street...

I'm all for wiping out street racing, but they are taking the wrong approach. The police are under pressure from the general public so they have to do something about it... and now we're all gonna have to put up with random pull-overs just because 1) we are young drivers and 2) we drive a modded sport compact.

Thats exactly what I fear is going to happen with this new program. I don't think that it is fair that we are all labeled STREET RACERS simply because we drive modified cars. :fustrated

If a cop ever wants to pull me over and tow my car I will run instead.. I have spent soo much cash on my car and will never hand it over to them.

THIS is bullshit.. just because some of them are jealous of our cars. This new operation run by the police is for a few reasons. For one the public who drives like **** and too slow who probably can't even pass the drivers test if they took it again are complaining. People who cant afford our cars are pissed off because they can't get in on the action. and the last thing which I have stated before is that most of these cops that pull us over are mad because we are driving nicer cars than they ever did and they've been working all of their lives.

Its ****** jealousy and stupid kids who race in suv's infront of their schools that is making these problems for us.

a source? yeah... it's called pick up a local newspaper... check out stats canada or if you're to lazy to do that...
http://www.canoe.ca/TorontoNews/ts.ts-05-23-0100.html

and even still 5 deaths/year??? don't you think that's too much?
even professional racing had 4 deaths in the last 4 years....

ok just one thing though, you got the stats wrong. you might be able to pick up a newspaper but try reading it more carefully. 16 deaths per 4 yrs not 16 for 2-3 yrs like you said before.

4 deaths per year is not a super high number that calls for drastic enforcement by the police department. a crime that causes 4 deaths per year is not something that should get the amount of attention it's been getting.

first lets just disregard the fact that this stat might have been skewed (which it probably has been). what do they expect to do anyway with this crackdown? pull over and harass every modded car out there so to hopefully reduce that number to 3.5 per year? maybe they should focus on other things. homicides accounted for 60 deaths in the City of Toronto alone last year, nevermind the GTA.

from that same article you posted, it says that "Police estimate about 20,000 vehicles in the GTA are modified for street drag racing. " i guess they're including all the cars that have been lowered or have rims in that figure. said it before and i'll say it again, what a joke.

Now let's see....a completly done motor......Stock 13 or 14 rims w/hubcaps.....yeah, that would look cool.......(excellent handling to boot!) (NOT!)
No thanks.......if they are going to stop every one, then what's the point?
Drive normaly, and keep the "Bling, Bling" to the meets. If you do happen to get a ticket, FIGHT IT IN COURT!
They no longer have night court, so the day court will start to get cogested......in turn, more tickets will get thrown out, so the more serious ones...ie drunk driving, no ins....will be delt with sooner.
They can only do about 1500 a day as it is right now, (all courts across metro)......imagine if EVERYONE that gets a ticket, fights it! They will get off our back sooner or later when they start to see that we will ALL fight the tickets we get. They don't want to have a 10-12 month waitng period for a stupid tickets like blue nipple lights. Think about it......

FIGHT YOUR TICKETS! CLOG THE COURT SYSTEM! :working:
And remember to drive like happy-go-lucky ricers!
Slow down, and watch what you do, and where you do it!

Anything that contributes to just one unneccesay death needs to be looked at closely. If you go out toCayuga or Mosport and crash and burn that's a conscious decision you've made. If you happen to crash someone else out in at a race track, they knew the risks they were taking, by going out on the track. But some innocent bystander or other motorist who get killed because two little punks want to run on the street, didn't make the decision and didn't have a choice. I know this may sounds silly, but what if it was your Mom or your Dad or even you who was killed because of a street race. Think about it. Guys are saying how expensive their rides are and how they would run from the cops before they'd let them impound their cars. That's intelligent. They will get you at some point. There's no doubt about that. You do have liscence plates on your car don't you? You think that you might be getting harrased by the cops now. I buddy of mine got caught trying to run from the cops. Now whenever a cop pulls in behind him and runs his plates, he get stopped for driving even 5km/h over the limit. The only reason the cops harrass anyone with a done ride right now is because of street racing. If the cops and the rest of the motoring public realise that we aren't a bunch o hoodlums, and are out breaking the HTA on a nightly basis they will leave us alone. We'll be old news, and nobody will care anymore. Remeber that public oppinion is what drive the cops and the politician to do what they do.

I'm not sure about you guys but, I totally frown upon street racing....spinning tires and leaving like 20 percent of your tires behind while you jet right off the line against some other dumbass at a red light isn't exactly a smart thing to do...dumb is the word. I can say this because my fiance died last year in just such an accident. She had an Eclipse dun up to the ****** and raced some dude and the dumbass driver cut her off and she crashed into a guardrail at 150 miles an hour and died on impact. Statistics are fine when you don't know who they actually were...but, when they are actually victims that you love, things change...your life changes and your opinions change aswell. You all can be my guests if you want to street race but, I highly recommend you don't cause you never know if you'll be apart of the statistic...

sorry to hear about your fiance  what reason did he have to cut her off, he needs to be shot

statistics are statistics, it hurts more when you know the person who was involved in such a death. Cuz there are crazy drivers all over the place. My friend lost one of his relatives, when a drunk guy in a civic rammed into his (my friends relatives) sunfire..split the car in two almost..happened up in woodbridge..a year ago i think. He was heart broken for a while. I have seen some pretty crazy s%^& myself...

a perfect example of a stupid driver is as follows(my real life experience)...
I was once involved in a street race (late night) with a celica GT..my car was faster(had better top end) and i was right on his *** and then we hit traffic and i shut down...the moron weaves through traffic showing off, thinking that he was fast...later on I get on an empty lane and speed up buddy in the GT sees that my lane is empty and jumps two lanes to get on to my lane no signal nothing....but he was a little late..cuz my car was already faster than his on that lane..I would have smacked right into him...i had to go around him and almost hit a civic on the lane i used to pass him and cut right in front of him...he highbeams me and i start to pull on him and i shut down...and he does the ricer flyby..i never street raced since that incident...cuz i could have smacked into that civic in front of me trying to avoid him or the GT could have t-boned me...when i cut back into my lane which was empty..getting t-boned at over 160km/h is not something i wanna feel. But i dont condone STREET RACING..as long as there are no idiots like the guy in the celica GT driving the other car...

NOt only has this changed my view on things but I did know the girl as well and when i found out it is hard since whitetiger is my friend as well. Recently a really close friend of mine died because two idiots decided to be punks on the road and hit her car dead on when she was just 2 minutes away from her home. Point to say is that one should not be so dumb as to pull stupid **** on the road but be responisble enough that if they are going to take a life take their own and not someone else's. People do not tend to realize what it means until someone that they care about dies. It always takes something bad to occur before you realize that you should not do it.

Engine swap? who knows maybe when I am sure I can stop myself from using it on the streets. Until then I decided not to.

street racing

what to say that hasn't already been said.....there is a lot of racing out here in oshawa too....lotsa idiot kids at my old school burning rubber and almost hitting kids walking across the streets...the burnouts well I did my share of those........ I think I personally have been a lot more careful since I've heard about these accidents and impounding of cars, but even I don't think I can cruise the strip to the lake out here without showing some idiot kid driving mommy or daddy's car how idiotic they are. All i can say about that is put limits on your stupidity if you can't cut it out and hopefully that will save the bunch of us who do feel the need to race, from making a mistake we will regret for the rest of our lives.
There have been many accidents out here just from stupidity like kids running out in the road at a party and getting hit by a cube van, a 18 y/o girl turning left and being killed by being broadsided by a ups van, idiot kids drinking then rolling their SUVs. As long as there are cars on the road bad things are going to happen, but what can even the cops do more than they are doing, keep their ears open and stake out car spots....... the roads are a scary place I remember getting yelled at by my parents when I first got my license "we're not worried about your driving it's the other guy that scares us......" even my dad admits I've done stupid things (like racing), but he knows at least i know my limits and my cars........ I'm stupid for the racing I have done and know I won't do anymore except at a track if my adrenaline doesn't get the best of me
Sorry for the ranting and my condolences go out to all who have lost a loved one to car stupidity....... Take care and keep you eyes open looking for the "other guy" when you are out!

P.S. Good for you guys following the drunk......as a server in a licensed establishment I worry every time i serve a drink good to know you guys are watching too!
