new guy here, just got a 96 civic

Hi everyone, I've been on the boards reading some of the post but didn't want to make a thread until I saved enough money from pt job to buy the car. Its a 96 Civic ex 4dr that i bought for 2k, cars body is in good condition but the engine is not so good i think. The guy sold it because he needed enough money so he can get his girlfriend to Canada and so couldn't cover for e test if something would need repair. He let me take it for a day and drive it to my friends auto mechanic dad to see it before i buy it and he said the engines was not that well maintained but still a good deal and so i bought it from him knowing that i might have to do some engine repairs.

I'll post pics in a few days after i go get it from my friends dads shop.

welcome to tcc

Honestly 2000 $ for a 96 civic with a bad engine is a really bad deal. Unless the car came with some mods worth something. However, i don't think changing the engine would be too expensive but you would have to save a little more

Some pics would be nice too

its not a deal , but it is not a scam. No worries , its a civic so there is a lot of potential . just enjoy the car

been doing some reading because this is all new to me and wanted to know if i had to get a new engine should i get a d16y8 or a JDM D15B and how much would these cost?. Do i have to find the engines with automatic transmission or it doesn't matter?. My car is automatic and has d16y7 think its OBD1 would i have to do a full engine swap?

All D series transmissions are interchangeable. And I believe 96 and up is all OBDII.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

$2000 for the car + $2000 for a B-series swap = $4000 for a nice car...sounds like a decent deal to me...and even better if you just throw in a d16y8 which are mega cheap

2k and it needs a new motor, no etest, probably not safetied then and the body is in "good" condition? I think he got ripped off.

thnx for the welcome guys, well I just did the emission test today and it passed, my friend told me to put new oil into the engine and drive for while don't now if it was that but it did the trick. So im thinking the owner before just didnt take good care of the engine. I think i am not going to need a new engine as of right now but in the near future I might want to replace that d16y7 under the hood with something that gives alittle bit more kick.
