need advice on purchase of 06 civic

Hi guys,

I’m looking at buying a 2006 Honda Civic EX(sedan)

Location? GTA
Regular price? 28k off the lot

Two questions:

1. How much of a discount were you able to get?

2. What items did the dealer throw into the deal? Did any of the items below get thrown in?

Below is a laundry list of features that I want. I’m not sure if I should get some of the items from the dealer or aftermarket.
i. mp3 auxiliary input jack $147
ii. cargo net $121
iii. locking wheel nuts $72
iv. trunk tray $149
v. rear splash guards $89
vi. all weather mats $147
vii. the above trunk tray/splash guard/mats for $350

get the dealer invoice price first...then do the negotiating...get quotes from atleast 2-3 dealers before you decide....depending on your contract (lease/finance/trade-in/down)...which also affects the best they can offer you.

With the exception of that mp3 jack....you can get everything aftermarket (CT, Affiliates,Ebay etc.) and save a ton.

$28K sounds a bit much for an EX sedan. Definitely get the invoice price first and then start negotiating.

I would say get has much of those things on the list as you can included in the deal but only after you have worked out a discounted price. See what you can get for free and for all the other stuff buy aftermarket.

i'll wait for 07 civic... they're gonna be a little better and hopefully no recalls - you know that there's already 2 recalls for the 06 civic right.

I've got the invoice price from carcost canada but the margin seems pretty small anyways. I am just curious to see if anyone is actually getting a discount on it since the 06 model is so popular.

Info on the 06 recall --> http://www.autobuyguide.com/2006/12-aut/honda/civic/recalls/index.html

It seems like they've fixed them. Honda has a strong track record for quality so i don't anticipate that there will be many future recalls, even if the 06 is in it's first year.

as far as 07 model goes, i was hoping to save some money by purchasing the 06 model now

no it's not far from csx territory.. but IMO, the csx just has nicer trim than the civic ex so i'm not willing to jump to that price point

I don't think that should be the logic for a purchase, every hundred dollars you bargain down is taking a very small amount away from the salesperson's commission.
Plus, it is a two-way relationship. Do you think the salesman is thinking "Every $ I charge this customer more is $ taken away from this customer who is just trying to make a living like me."

I won't lie. i do love the TSX. in fact, i'd prefer to get the tsx. But the tsx is 38.6k (after freight/pdi before tax) doing a quick pricing on acura.ca. hence, settling for a civic since i prefer to buy new.

the second you drive off that lot your car drops 20% in value, buy an 05 tsx it'll come with 6 years from acura and up to 120k coverage. a civic for 28 is insane!, honda must be laughing their asses off seeing people buy these cars up

all depends on what you want... some people prefer the civic... and if you're going for brand new there is def a significant difference in price between a brand new civic and a brand new tsx... lots of ppl prefer getting brand new as opposed to used...

You can make your own MP3 cable for less than $5. I was going to order one with parkway until I saw this DYI.

http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6171

Here is a how to on 8th gen civic.

Now I just need to figure out if I can add keyless trunk option added to my 06 EX. (I know the US model has it)

The OEM stereo will play MP3 cd's and the car already has a Aux input jack. Most of the accessories you listed can be bought online at US Honda parts dealers for very cheap. Thge wheels locks came with my car and I got the winter mats thrown in.

I'm leasing the car so I didn't get any delas, but I did get ok cash for my 98 as a trade in. I think unless you are planning on buying the car outright, you probably wont be able to bargain with them. The cars are very popular and if you don't buy it at what they are asking, the next person will.

The CSX is basically the JDM version of our Civic. It has the K20 from the RSX premium and a few more options and standard features then the Civic EX.

I've read many posts on lots of different forums where people are *****ing about how expensive the 06 Civics are, but when you consider what you are getting for the price, nothing else really compares. Honda reliablity and engineering, tons of safety and extra features that are not even available in other cars in its class, great gas mileage, etc, etc.
