Need advice please, just bought a civic!

Okay I just bought a 1999 Honda Civic Si and its my first car (i'm 21)

I'm rather proud of it and would love some advice,
I understand I can't modify the motor so much because its a d16y8..
but I do want to get a Ractive™ Fireball Style Slant Cut Tip Muffler
and a nice cold air intake so it purrs nice hah

I find silver is okay but It just looks so damn plain.. any ideas.. I'm going to get rims for it but I don't know if 17's will fit on it.. and I have a bit of rust on the hood and a paint peeling off on a door.. how do I repair that? (what could I buy)

I want to also replace the "si" tag in the back and get a red "SiR" where could I get that tag? LOL!

Also want to change the lights in the back and front if possible to something cooler... where do I go for that?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as you guys know much about civics than I do..

One thing for sure I'm a PROUD owner of a civic now :D

Heres some pics:

17's will fit, but they stupid on a civic, don;t go nothing bigger then a 16" rim. Get a front and rear lip for it, and lower the car. Don't put on a SiR on it, not unless you have a B16 under the hood. You can also change the grill, get a lower grill for the bumper. Get the OEM fog lights. Leave the stock rear lights, but get black housing lights for the front.

civicEJ1 21-Feb-2009 07:19 PM

ur tail lights are as cool as they get
dont put SiR unless u have something quick
not true. you can always make power out of a d16 y8 if u have the money
lower it
17;s are too big, they loook odd.

and congrats on the new car,,,very nice

You know where I could get those parts.. I'm having a hard time finding anything online and offline.. I hate ordering from the states..

I want a SiR so I'll have the appearance of having a B16 :P since I'm too cheap to swap.. where could I get the lip and grill etc bro... and the black housing lights..

Thanks a ton for your advice bro.

Look in the classifieds on here, or check out some other forums.

Thanks a ton bro.

Congrats on the car!..

Get out some of the vendors.. OptionJDM and Tires23.. They'll have some parts your looking for.

also, as everyone has said.. your tails are nicest out there, and stick with 15's or 16's.. 17's will rob power, as there alot bigger to try and turn.

HONDA CIVIC 2D COUPE TAIL LIGHTS 96 97 98 99 00 BLACK - (eBay.ca item 200312830328 end time 28-Feb-09 14:28:59 EST)

found that hah

DumbasSi 21-Feb-2009 09:23 PM

Its your car, so how you modify it is totally up to you. But, putting on SIR badges, ebay lights and a fart-can mufflerwill just get you flamed.

I would get an OEM style front and rear lips, paint the side skirts silver, black-out the head lights, OEM style foglights. I personally like Honda wheels, so I would suggest a nice set of 15 or 16 Honda or Acura wheel. For an exhaust, look int he classifieds for an OEM 99-00 SIR exhaust. It will bolt right on and give your Si a very subtle and nice exhaust tone.

These parts can be easily found in the classifieds or at places like OptionJDM, Battlendless or Speedtech.

Congrats on the car.

Please don't get any different tail lights. The ones you have are just perfect for the car. As for the badge, leave the Si badge. Better use your money for other, more meaningful parts.

sirux 21-Feb-2009 09:43 PM

Thanks a ton bro that gave me a nice kick-start
My issue is I have no clue as to what fits my vehicle.. I'm not that experienced yet. but you shown me some nice rims.

DumbasSi 21-Feb-2009 09:57 PM

Its pretty easy. Basically any wheel with a 4x100 bolt pattern and 40-45 offest will fit. So, in otherwords, any wheel from basically any Civic up to 2005 or Integra will fit. Body parts will be specific to 99-00 Civics. Suspension parts from really any Civic or Integra can be made to fit, but I would stick with parts that are specific to a 96-00 Civic.

Yeah adding a SiR emblem would be kinda noobish I agree lol
I guess I'll get some nice front lights and some lips

Don't know if this guy is trustworthy "http://www.toofastmotors.com/"

DumbasSi 21-Feb-2009 10:06 PM

Never heard of the place. OptionJDM would be your best bet. They can get just about anything you need. Wheels can be found in the classifieds.

spike 21-Feb-2009 10:27 PM

Good prices on the lips. Don't get the side shirts, keep the stock ones.

Im curious... would the SiR exhaust compared to the Si exhaust make a difference? any gains at all? dont mean to thread jack :P

spike 22-Feb-2009 12:15 AM

not really, it's not really that much bigger, plus, your not letting more air in the engine.

DumbasSi 22-Feb-2009 02:31 AM

I had an SIR exhaust on my 98 Si. The SIR was about 1/2" bigger in diameter and if I remember correctly, stainless steel with mandrel bends too. I doubt it made any more power, but it was cheap and it did sound much better then the stock Si exhaust.

Do your homework. You can make decent power N/A with the Y8.
I/H/E now throw in some P29's or PM7's add a stage 2 or 3 cam with springs (stock d retainers can handle 9000+ rpm's) bump the compression, with a tune your looking at easily 140+whp. Been done a ton of times.

zeeman 22-Feb-2009 09:42 AM

ur all about the n/a d-series eh t-mack?

thats a lot of work/money for 140whp when a straight b16 swap would make that much power and most likely cost less.

This guy said he's too cheap to do a swap, so I doubt he'll want to pull the engine out to replace pistons and do a build.

Enjoy the 110whp this engine makes, get I/H/E so it sounds a little better and do some appearance mods (if thats what you're in to).

issue is.. I just bought this car for 5 grand.. which was a mistake I guess I didn't know the engine was this small I googled honda civic si and it showed me a 160hp b16 vehicle.. and after I bought it I realized it was just a d16..
but thats life..
I can't return the vehicle and I'm not rich enough for a engine swap.. I guess i'll just do the exhaust header and intake and just leave it as is.. **** it

thats not thattttttt bad at all, what u paid for ur car. it looks all stock, what most people would prefer.
is there any probelms with it mechanically?

sirux 22-Feb-2009 09:52 AM

155k km and it runs great for the $4,800 I paid for it.. maybe I should stay away from high HP:P

sirux 22-Feb-2009 11:09 AM

How much would it cost to put a B16 engine in her with labor?

tkjode 22-Feb-2009 11:40 AM

Full out engine swap /w B-series transmission will probably run you between $1500-2000 for a 2nd gen B16A. Mounts and other misc. parts will tack on a little to this price too.

Labor ran me about $800 for my swap... though cost will vary based on whatever garage you go to.

spike 22-Feb-2009 12:12 PM

Don't do the swap. just do the i/h/e, and do some looks to it.

I agree with the end part......lets face it there's no such ting as cheap and fast in the same sentence.
He might be better off ordering the Tornado or an electric supercharger.

But really...building a fast d-series NA is not that exspensive and still cheaper then a b16 swap.
I can break it down easy for you.
FJT rebuild kit $300
Bisi cam and camgear $325
Aftermarket springs $150
I/H/E, I figure you should have that already? And a tune. Still cheaper and making more power then a stock b16.

spike 22-Feb-2009 01:59 PM

Or you can do a turbo kit for cheeper then a b16, and make more power then both with a good tune.

T-MacK 22-Feb-2009 02:03 PM

My buddy's d15b turbo is running 8psi and eating B16's and b18's for breakfest!

Whats with the electric supercharger thing and the tornado? a scam? lol I saw that **** around and I laughed.

Where could I find the FJT rebuild kit, and aftermarket springs..
the intake i'll find somewheres eventually... I'm having a problem finding a half decent header and I'm thinking of getting an axle back ractive exhaust system
with
stainless steel 2 1/4 " piping with a angled muffler

Whatcha think?
Thanks all for the help.. !!
p.s.: sorry for asking where to find those parts just I can't find anything in Canada.. if you order anything from the u.s. first you're paying USD then you gotta pay duties and other taxes and a ****load of shipping.. makes no sense.

spike 22-Feb-2009 04:22 PM

the axle back is fine, it's not hard to find the parts here, close to any aftermarket parts shop sell a **** load of parts for civics, you just got to look.

The SIR exhaust I mentioned earlier will do the same thing without sounding like sime fartcan exhaust like the Ractive will.

What parts are you looking for that you cant find?

sirux 22-Feb-2009 05:43 PM

I'm looking for a brand name cold air intake a cheap header and a half decent exhaust.. I just want it to sound ****ing good.. with the stock exhaust it sounds like a garbage can hah.

Don't know what kinda camshaft I should get for it.. and I also can't find a FJT rebuild kit.

I don't know if I should get the vehicle lowered.. since I'll always end up ****ing my vehicle up with bumps.

other than that I've ordered a grille, and a front and back type-r lip and will install it all by friday..

I must be a total idiot then because I can't find any half decent parts for my car!.

Thanks EVERYONE for the help.. I can't wait till my civic is a finished product.

sirux 22-Feb-2009 06:07 PM

I was also wondering if I should put any decals on it... if any..where should I put them.. any suggestions?
