light bump ='s big car damage :(

I have a question about this problem I had. Essentially what happened was I was parking in an underground parking garage that was VERY steep... infact it was one of the enterences to my place... I was going Soooo slow just not to scrape (not realizeing how steep this driveway was) and basically from the bottom of the steep ramp to the straight pavement my bumper cleared the ground but everything else didn't. Even thou I was going very slow I still smashed the ground... No damage occured to the outside of the bumper but I ended up damaging bumper impact bar and front body radiator support.

Anyways I talked to the landlords of the place and they told me to use the other enterence (obiously) and that they have no liability and according to my lease they are right.. and fighting it thru a lawyer would be retarted as far as costs would be concerned. I went to an affiliate body shop and they gave me a deal but it's still over 1000bux. The worst part I think is he said that on top of that at no charge they'd "straighten" out part of the frame that is a bit bent. If the frame is bent does that not mean it's a pretty serious issue??? I really don't wanna spend a fortuinte repairing something that if it truly does have frame damage would be a waste of money. How serious is this problem?

I've hit the tow hooks (on the lower rad support) on driveways pretty bad a few times and caused no damage to anything but the tow hooks

how fast were you possibly going to cause $1000+ damage and enough to tweak the frame?...if u was goin super slow you woulda felt the scrapage first and slowed and/or stopped and used another entrance/exit

can you see the damage from outside of the car or do u have to crawl up under it and see it? how bad is it damaged? is it twisted, crumpled, dented what?

maybe its time for a jim-fab lower rad support/traction bar combo!

when I smacked a curb at a good 25kmh in my crx I paid 200bucks to get its pulled on the chassis rack and thats all I did to it and everything lined up straight and perfect again

and remember this, if you got a deal for 1000bucks a normal shop would maybe be around 1500-1800 and insurance woudlnt think twice about writing the car off (been there), so I guess its can you live with whatever is wrong with the car? I wouldnt worry too much about it if all the panels line up, suspension is straight and doesnt pull left or right

some visuals of the damage would help too, cuz I really have no clue how bad it could possible have been

its funny I was going like honestly as slow as I could go down the slope... I'm not abusive to the car so anyone that knows me knows I wouldn't be stupid w/ it... Ummm basically it's b/c of the way the ramp is... it's very steep and then it levels right out... it's not very graduated from slope to straight.. I think that's how I achieved not smacking the front bumper but wrecking the stuff behind it... I guess it kinda makes sense about the frame I dunno it is now pulling which could be alingment but it was driving straight b4. Here are some pics.. there not great but u get the point... the other hot thing was the front fenders got pushed up casue of the damage on the radiator support so opening the hood is an adventure b/c of the lack of space there is... here are some hot pics of it...

lookin at the pictures I know exactly what happened...1 hour on a chassis rack will fix that up easy...looks like most of the damage is driverside, the lower rad support looks like it twisted towards the rear of the car (thats what my crx looked like when I smacked a curb)...from looking at how the bumper is pulled down I think a simple pulling of the lower rad support down and out will straighten up everything...I wouldnt pay more than 500bucks for that

my car had almost the exact same damage as yours except worse, my whole driverside front was pulled down pretty good and when I took off the bumper when I got home I thought it was done...my buddy took it into his shop, they strapped it to the chassis rack and pulled it perfect in a hour or so and it only cost me 200bucks compared to the 1200 I was quoted elsewhere

its all the tow hook's fault...if my crx didn have the stupid tow hooks on the bottom like that there woulda been no problem...I used to use my crx to push my project VW back into the garage with no problems...straight on impact or force is fine its the bad angle stuff that gets ya!

well im going to go to a couple other places for opinions/prices... I guess if I can't get a better deal than what I was quoted then I'll be dumping the crx...

dude, just ask them to pull it not fix it...thats the key! you will find some places wont pull it though, they will give you some kind of excuse about how they arent liable for any damages or whatever...find a reputable shop thats willing to do a cash deal to rack it up and pull it straight

tell them you will even take the bumper off for them to save them the time. like I said man, its a cheap fix (from what I can see atleast) just find a shop thats willing to rack it

when I had mine pulled the only damage the rack caused was that it pulled 3 of the 4 spot welds apart from the rear tow hook (as thats where they tied the rear down on the rack...it didnt bother me much cuz the front end came out perfect...and heck it was an 86 CRX

Is it possible that the frame damage occured prior to your scraping the ground from the ramp?? Like, the frame isn't something you normally look at or see, but maybe this ramp incident just kinda aggravated frame damage.

Second and third opinions would definitely be a great idea though, estimates can vary widely.

the difference also is about 1000bux!

they can go in there and start to replace parts and stuff but taht costs money for parts and labour...or u can pay a couple hours labour for em to pull it and be on your way

heh u'll find this classic cynikal... I was driving home yesterday I was in dundas st. right b4 trafalgar. The light was red and when I put it in gear the car started to growl... I'm like okay... and I took it outta gear and put it back in... ne ways I'm going and this is a deep growl... There seems to be various issues on top of what was listed

first off for whatever reason my shifter (underneath) the car is touching something and making my shifter rattle hardcore, as well something is now messed up w/ the exhaust and it stinks pretty nice right now... third is when you accellerate it almost feels as if there's something governing how fast I can accellerate, and anything above 80km/h it won't go, and last but certainly not least idling is messed up 2, it honestly feels like im in a high performance drag car cause it keeps bouncing and shimmering.

anyways I'm going to get that portion of the car looked at today, and if im lucky maybe someone will t-bone me so insurance will give me money to get a new car.... so damn frusterated.. oh yea did i mension that I had an exam today I couldn't drive to cause I live in burlington and drive to toronto
