Jacked block?

K, my buddy has a 2000 SiR, he showed me the motor today and he said that the VIN number on the block was gone and that it looks like the code (b16a2) was filed down and reprinted.

Heres the block, Also, his driver side fender is a light blue, could it be from an Si not the SiR? Its not to good of a pic.

Thanks,

-Jacob

The best way to see if the engine was swapped, is to go to a Honda dealership. Ask them to punch in your VIN, and see what comes up. It should tell you what engine is supose to be in there.

THAT car is SO stolen.

Clues, Repainted, no VIN on the block, the serial on the block is refiled.

Sounds like that engine's been dropped in there.

a true '99 SIR also has SIR on the guage and the red line will show 8000 on the tach.

other things that came on the SIR, heated mirrors, spray windshield nozzles, not stream, and a bigger windshield washer fluid res.

Keep in mind that the US si doesn't have the above features but you'd beable to tell if the car's american by the speedometer.

Watch out if the car IS stolen you could get it re-posessed without getting reimbersed!

BUT the car HAS been in a side swip accident, thats why it doesn't have the DOHC VTEC stickers. My brother took it to 8200, but the tach redline shows 8000. It was bought from a dealer he said. But are you sre that the serial numbers were filed is the question.

It's kind of hard to tell if the engine matches the body with out the VIN plate on the engine.

The removal of the VIN isn't an issue unless it coupled with questionable marks with the serial.

What colour is the car? check other parts of the car to see if you find light blue anywhere else.

I'm guessing the engine bay colour matches everything else right?

Also if the car has heated mirrors and spary nozzles you should be okay.

Just the engine's a little odd. Maybe a previous blown engine, and the previous replaced it with a cheaper DOHC engine and got it restamped.

Thats what i was thinking, remember when that happen to someone one here. I just think that when the car was side swipped he replaced the fender with a lighter blue one. Everything else is ok. But i'll ask him if the mirrors are heated and the spray nozzles. But thanks for all the help. I'll tell him to go to honda and check it out.

Yeah I would say first step, confirm that the chassis is and actual SIR chassis (Run the VIN and check the options).

Then once you confirm that, you’ll have to confirm the authenticity A: if that engine came with the car from the factory, and if no why? And

Also if the answer is no, then is that engine a REAL SIR engine and so on and so on….
