If you have a choice........

The car in question --- A slightly used 05-06 Acura TL or Acura TSX

Scenario-A
You have a choice between manual transmission or OEM navigation system..........which one would you select and why? Consider two drivers in the household...one of which is totally not used to a manual.

Scenario-B
You have a choice to get the Acura A-spec package for either cars from the dealer (includes front and rear lip, sideskirts, trunk spoiler, 18"HFP alloys and upgraded suspension installed) at the cost of $5000. Would you get it with the car or will you consider getting it aftermarket/ebay or some classifieds?

Looking forward for your suggestions....

Scenario A - I would pick Navi (or auto in this case) because the other member (your better half, I assume) can't drive manual. Unless it is your dedicated project/fun/toy car, it could be shared between the family members. I am picking this from a considerate point of view.

Scenario B - We all know OEM skirt package will be rare and hard to find after a while (i.e. EK 1st gen SiR front/rear lip) so I would take the package but the dragging parts are the wheels, and the suspension. OEM Honda wheels don't appeal to me much and suspension, if I want performance/handling, I would go with reputable aftermarket with good numbers and specs.

I would try to see if you can break up the package by not getting the wheels and the suspension.

thanks for the suggestions so far...charles, here are some numbers:

18" Acura dual five spoke rims..made by Enkei
Local Dealer - C$3000 (gunmetal) and C$2500 (silver)..before taxes
Acura dealer on Ebay - US$1400(gunmetal) and US$1000(silver)...before shipping to canada and customs/ups brokerage

Here are some photos...of the rims plus the a-spec kit (i have some actual pics too..will post later today)

So buying from a local dealer, the a-spec package (minus the rims and including front, rear and sides) will cost C$2100..painted and installed but before taxes. Buying the exact same items from ebay will cost US$800 but before shipping, brokerage, paint and install.

^^ forgot to mention...the rims do not come with tires.

In case of the TSX...

17" Gunmetal rims - Local Dealer - C$2500 before taxes...Ebay Dealer - US$700 before everything

BodyKit - roughly the same prices as those for the TL

or i say...screw all options, get the car bare and get the whole mugen kit from kingmotorsports...lol

The Ebay skirt package, not authentic OEM right?

Dealer always costs more, but the installation and paint is guarantee good work. That 2100 dollars will be nothing if you are paying them over 5 years.

As for wheels, I personally don't like them. And is 18" a must? I mean, if 17, or even 16" will fit, I would go that route. My take on wheels has always been (well, after I got into this whole Civic ordeal) to pick the smallest wheel that can clear the calipers. Less mass and less cost on tires. But tires do weight fair bit so I am not completely excluding that part.

The skirt package is nice, I like it.

Is it still a toss up between TSX/TL? Or you are set on TL?

All ebay stuff i talked about is authentic and OEM acura...this acura dealer has literally everything that a dealer can sell locally.

http://stores.ebay.com/Acura-of-Escondido-Parts

I see your point on the wheels....and these are all optional as you prerdicted...the stock wheels are 17" and five spoke silver. i am still unsure about which model....my issue is timing more than the budget...if i can say....i need a bigger sedan than the civic but do i need it to be as big as a TL or just the TSX. Bottom line...i like both.

If your looking for luxury go for the TL. If you want performance/exciting drive TSX. I'm actually looking at the RSX and TSX as well. I have seen a TSX with the RSX type S spoiler and it looks amazing.

I say go for Ebay if the seller can be trusted. But shipping is going to a bugger due to box size.

No navi. I'd never use and I think it just a novelty or a "bling" option. Unless you do alot of driving to destinations unknown, it's useless IMO. The amount of money it costs could be used for a much more useful option.

I would possibly take the A-Spec performance parts (suspension, wheels, etc) and possibly buy the bodykit from somewhere else. Ryanhook for example (an old school member) bought the bodykit for his TSX at a Acura delaer in New York state. He drove there with a few other members and put the kit on in their parking lot. He drove right across the border, no questions asked. Oh, and the kit was basically half-price there compared to a Canadian dealer.

i would never get the HFP wheels.
i would rather opt for advan or rays wheels.
stock TL lip kit is hot i would get that or a full authentic bodykit from a manufacturer.

Auto tranny + padle shifters = the lose!!!

I'd go with the TSX, bare car and get lip kit etc.. after market...

Why? cause I like to do things myself rather then let the dealer charge me crazy money for something I can do...

My $0.02
