Hey Kumanan do they have these auctions frequently in Stouffville? I live there and I have never seen it before. I wouldn't mind checking one out one day.

I can tell in the pictures that was NOT the ONLY thing *bent* back.

Believe me, I did think before I *typed*, I never spoke. You must keep cars forever, eh....?

Lots of legal implications came to mind when I read this post... good luck.

I know... nothing? okay... I'm sure Jay's going to laugh pretty hard at you when he reads your post! It's your dad fixing your car, right? Perhaps its you that knows... nothing...

legal implications.. such as?

and yea it was the only thing bent back... if you look close thats a genuine lexus trunk...rear absorber, the right quarter was completely replaced, trunk lock is from dealer as well... lights frm dealer... bumper from dealer... so plz tell me what was bent back other then the left quarteR?

the body guy told me its better to get a complete rear end and join it... but do i wanna spend over 10k ? nah.. i rather have the quarter bent back, adn everything else replaced.... all depends on how you want it done... and this is teh way i chose

k i will post cuz you asked.

basically what you got to know it what gets damaged when a rear end accident occurs...things like...

trunk floor, trunk wall, quater panels, inner frame and frame rails, trunk, rear tail lights, etc.....

now the way this car is fixed all that is being done is the frame pulled back and then the quater panel skin taken off and put on. the problem is that does not fix the car properly because anything bent can never be brought back to perfect specs without replacement. all in all the car will look proper when fixed but the car mechanically is still wrong..

the proper way to fix it is just like your bodyman said replace the complete rear end.

the way that will be done is you have to take out your complete rear interior (ie. rear seats, remove the carpet lining etc...) drop the gas tank out and remove the suspensions etc...(what your trying to do is make the complete rear end from beind the door BARE to the metal. then you have to drill out the spot welds where it was welded on from factory and cut off the quater panels at the quater pillars and remove the complete rear section this basically removed all the damaged parts EXCEPT for the frame rails then what you do is section out the frame rails (frame rail is not one piece so you section off the rear end) and then do the exact opposite for the new replacement parts.
this insures the car is MINT.

yea but the thing is.. the trunk floor and all wasnt damaged in this... the car wasnt hit on the bumper as in normal accidents.. it has hit directly on the trunk lid which pushed the quarter and trunk in... thast why we bent the left quarter back cause it wasnt as big as the right, whihch we replaced.

k understandable but a bent piece of metal in this case the quater panel that you guys pulled back is still bent. meaning that side of the car is still in someway off from the factory setting.

the only way you guys can make it look perfect is by using bodyfiller etc...so your technically hiding the imprefection which if fine in terms of looks but the actual quater panel is still off when it comes to mechanical.

now picture yourself replacing that quater panel you dont even need bodyfiller to have that quater panel being mint. thats when you know you did it right.

i think that if you're doing it you should do it right and not put money before safety. it may cost more but in the end it could save your life

i think your taking it the wrong way....it is being done right.. its just one quarter was bent back instead of fully replaced.. its not gonna save ur life by doing it right, doesnt have that much of a difference because it wasnt that badly damaged.

its like.. if you get a dent on ur quarter of ur civic... are you gonna get a shop to completely cut down ur quarter and get a fresh ful lquarter and weld it back.... or are you gonna bend the dent back.. put some bondo and take it home?
