Question Honda steelies with winters from the dealer.

So I'm considering getting some snow tires and some steelies for my 06 Civic. One of the local Honda dealers in my area is offering a Winter Wheel and Tire package. The package consists of 4 brand new OEM 15" steel wheels, 4 195/65/15 Michekine X-Ice tires, mounting and balance for $840.

It seems a little steep, but everything is brand new, will fit perfect and probably comes with some for of Honda warranty. I've read that the X-Ice are an awesome tire and I plan of keeping the car for a few years.

I have also been looking for some used steelies instead, but they seem to be very rare. Used steelies with new tires would probably only be $500-$600 and I could pick another tire.

Thoughts?

X-ice = great tires indeed. 840 = steep price indeed.

Cant you get a better price from our affiliates?
then again if you after the honda warranty then go for honda.

Steelies for sale are hard to find on the forums now since everyone is either using them or has sold em.

If I were you, I'd probably go buy affiliates for the rubber ...n try to find steelies off the net..otherwise affiliates for steelies aswell.

$840 tax-in or plus tax. if its plus tax i say **** that, if its tax in why not spend the extra $200 and get new with a honda warranty.

by buying new you guarantee no bent or damaged rims and its already balanced, so you'll save some money there over getting used balanced.

Mike.. I work at Canadian Tire.. and the x-ice tires (your size) should be no more than $125 a piece, and the steel rims should be around $60.

Also.. I believe we are having a sale.. buy 1 tire get the next 1/2 price. The sale might of finished by now.. but you could save a bit of money by going to c/t.

Also we mount the tires for free and I believe its $14 a tire to balance.

EDIT: I just realized it would be roughly the same price as at the Dealership (w/o the canadian tire sale)

i'd say go for it considering you're going to keep the car for awhile.

if it's not tax in then screw it. pick up steelies from proparts and get tires seperately. 14 bucks a tire to balance at crappy tire? no wonder why mounting is free . the X ice are damn expensive because they're new. they would be around 600-700 for the set in 15s but if crappy tire is selling them for no more than 125 per tire then buy them there and might as well mount them since you're there.

I'm thinking used steelies if I can find them and a set of the C-T snows. Screw the $800 plus. That will buy me some new wheels in the spring.

thats good thinking

for the amount of snow we get the cheapo CT or Walmart snows (not All Seasons) are enough for here.

Thats all my parents have ever used on their civic and weve never had a problem.

Winter Tires...

Might want to try www.tires23.com. Picked up some viking snowtechs from them for my mazda 6 and they only charged $425 install/balance and taxes in for four 205/60r16. This was rubber only. They can also get the x-ice if you prefer. The viking came in second overall according to consumer reports just after the x-ice.

Good Luck, and they also sell steelies...

check www.wheels-direct.com

they are in scarborough and usually have pretty good prices as well as service. I always buy my summer and all seasons from them.

at the end of the day...if someone offers you a better deal...i dont think that there will be a big difference compared to the quote u already have provided you buy a good brand.

I have the Walmart Wintermakrs on my 03 and they have never let me down. I just wanted something a bit better for the new car and because the wife drives it too. I called a few wreckers already and they want just as much for a used set as C-T or Walmart wants for one of their steelies.
